Firefly Movie Using Viral Marketing?

CABridges writes "According to the official movie site, some interesting "security excerpts" have begun popping up online, first at iFilm. The videos (two, so far) appear to depict River Tam during various stages of her incarceration and mental capacity. More to come?" Also, in vaguely related and somewhat humorous news XJHardware writes "For those of you who really need an obsessive/compulsive hobby here's a good example. Seems this fellow Chris Doyle built a model of Serenity from the upcoming movie and too-quickly canceled series Firefly."

No. Right now it is just the Joss Whedon fanboys (of which I am one) who are interested in the movie, and it will probably just be them who go to see the movie. But the problem with being a Whedon fanboy is that we think the show was so good, we want everyone to see it, effectively converting them in to fanboys. So just save you and me the time, go get yourselves the DVD's of the show, and become one of us. Resistance isn't futile, but its going to be a pain for us both...

Nobody will fall for such obvious viral marketing techniques by spreading the news on their site. I'll be surprised if I ever even hear of this.

That's for sure. I saw the trailer for Serenity when we went to go see 'The 40 Year Old Virgin". Hmmm.

Even more precisely, it's a marketing attempt to generate buzz about a product by getting company whores to act like real people and claim their product is great. As such, I wouldn't go within 100 yards of this movie no matter how much I liked the series (assuming I'd ever watched it). Not because the company whores are necessarily wrong about the awesomeness of their product, but because marketing hacks are soulless leeches and they all deserve to be kicked in the nuts.

here here. I'd much rather they stick to parading around scantilly clad women to promote products. That is money well spent.

I don't really care for Buffy or Angel, but Firefly is one of the very best sci-fi shows ever. Imagine a show where the protagonist is Han Solo, and he offs Greedo by shooting first IN EVERY EPISODE!!!
