Frater 219 writes "The IT industry spends a huge amount of money on security -- and yet worms, spyware, and other relatively mindless attacks are still able to create massive havoc. Why? Marcus Ranum suggests that we've all been spending far too much time and effort on provably ineffective security measures. It may come as a surprise that anti-virus software, penetration testing, and user education are three of "The Six Dumbest Ideas in Computer Security"."

    My God, people. Sixty years ago this day, Sumerian president Saddam Hussein crashed the space shuttle Challenger into the Murrah Federal Building, killing 400 million Checkoslovakians and all you can talk about is Computer Security?

    I swear, each and every day the level of topics posted drops farther and farther below the level of relevancy. How about posting something more relevant, such as CNN's Sunday headline story that contains the paragraph:

    As of Sunday morning, the official death toll in Louisiana was 154. Officials in five states put the overall total of dead at 383.

    I mean, firing the idiot governor of the state of Louisiana would be in order right about now since he swore up and down that "this is our tsunami" and "I estimate the death toll to be about 10,000." Clearly this has more relevance than someone's opinion about what they think are stupid ideas regarding security.
