Star Wreck Released as Download
Arto Rantala writes "After seven years of production, Star Wreck: In The Pirkinning, the Finnish Star Trek / Babylon 5 parody movie, was finally released on DVD a month ago and is now available for download. In spite of its practically zero budget, the film has a hilariously captivating story, top notch CGI and even a couple of performances from professional actors. Download it now and buy the DVD if you like it! I know I did. You can also obtain it directly from the .torrent"
Please use http://www.starwreck.com/torrent/star_wreck_itp_su btitled_xvid.torrent to get the torrent. That will serve the file from the fastest server depending on load and your location.
Please note that movie is released under Creative Commons license. I wonder if they will release it in US ? May be not. different copyright laws etc
Those crazy finns have done it again! My review of the movie: ** 1/2 stars out of 5. Special effects are very nicely done, but the story is kind of dull. Acting is not very good either, but this I can understand because it's an amateur movie. And I didn't find it even funny. Is it just me? I don't get that type of humor.
Well, according to a post a few posts up, the movie is under a Creative Commons license, hence, it is legal.
Please, for the good of Humanity, vote Obama.
The torrent is legal. In fact, it's official.
Plot Summary for

The future looks bleak for Captain Pirk. Originally from the far future, he traveled back to save the world, but was shipwrecked on the 21st century. The world of the past is a dangerous place and he is finding it difficult to convince the ladies he is, in fact, an intergalactic space hero from the future. To make things right Pirk comes up with a questionable plan to save mankind's future...
Windows is like decaf - it tastes like the real thing, but it won't get you through the day.
The movie is released under a Creative Commons license and the .torrent is on the official web site, so yes, it's legal.

Oh go ahead and try. :)
Pal of mine, who works at Magenta spent last night setting up seeds and taking care that there's servers in Finland, UK, US and whatever.
He did mention that finnish server has had as much traffic in last 14 hours that it usually has in a year
Road to Hell is paved with frozen door-to-door salesmen. On weekends many of the younger demons go ice-skating down it
The movie is released under Creative Commons, as you can see from the site itself.
So if you can, mirrors would be greatly appreciated. We have a fast setup, but there are a lot of people downloading the movie.
-Rigi, the Star Wreck webmonkey.
702 seeds, 650 peers. Sweet.

"Did that ever take a *damned* long time." People have waited this movie for years, it was out in the midnight local time and Slashdot publishes an article full 23 hours later. Is this still News for Nerds? Get some priorities! =)
Anyways, enjoy the movie - I pre-ordered the DVD and I've only watched it three and half times, but even based on such flimsy conclusions I can say I seriously think this thing just rules, one of the best scifi special effect movies I've seen, parody or not.
What I find it interesting is that the website also has the .srt subtitles *and* a fairly detailed explanation from the translator on the intricacies of the translation - I sure hope this will make fan-provided translations a little bit better. Right now, I'm waiting for them to release the kind-of-promised SW:ITP soundtrack. This movie has some damn good music.
Not to worry. You could almost say there's more B5 spoofage in this movie than any Trek-related stuff. (The previous installments of the Star Wreck series have been pure Trek spoofage, though.)
It's actually Star Wreck 6
Please use the torrent file for maximized download. The servers are a bit crowded at the moment. There are several servers in New York, London and in Finland servicing the website and the direct downloads. However those servers typically have only a FE-network interface (100mbps) so it gets pretty crowded in an instant.
;-)
However right now at the time of this post it's almost midnight in local Finnish time (EET) so downloading from the Finnish servers might be the fastest direct download link ATM. Lots of fins are either partying/boozing or sleeping at the moment, or have downloaded the movie earlier today.
The Finnish servers are:

http://www-fi2.starwreck.com/
However it is strongly adviced that you use bittorrent - if you want to get the movie a bit faster
Yeah, just watched it and I mostly agree with your review.
I'd gather that DVD version is better visually, I'm not a hifi junkie, but those xvid artifacts were hideous. DVD may also have better resolution to look for those easter eggs (communication system.. ;) and other funnies.
It was so very weird to watch the movie and recognize so many places. B5-alike station features a hall, walkways and auditorium from my school, Tampere University of Technology.
It has its rough edges, but it's funny, even the most basic wooden-leg-jokes (checking malfunctioning blaster..). And damn, it's a full 2 hour movie packed with things like that.
fucktard is a tenderhearted description
Sorry, the only Finnish Star Trek parody worth spending time on is the Internet classic "DAMN YOU PIRARD". Anything else pales in comparison.
Now also mirrored at ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/culture/tv+film/StarWreck/
It's funny, and it's legal: don't be greedy and share it. If you have some kind of hosting with pre-paid bandwidth in excess, just use it. I'll be seeding it at 512KB/s (that's 4Mbps) for one week :-D
Try Ubuntu GNU/Linux, it's great!!!
Well, even Xvid cant do magic, and for a 100minute movies, they could at last have mde it 700MB to fill a whole cd (that would have impreved things quite a bit already).
HI O WISE PRINCE. WHT TOOK U SO DAM LONG?
KiB = 1024
KB = 1000
retrorocket.o not found, launch anyway?
I think you meant that the other way around. Normally download is faster than upload (precisely to keep you from using your home computer as a server).
I think the torrent systems are over-hyped as a SPEEDY way to download files. Like the Nutella and clones that followed the primary purpose of these things are (as I understand them):
* Provided a persistent (in the sense of "keeps trying") download for large files, with error correction, restart-ability, multiple sources/paths etc.
* Relative anonymity. The point is to guarantee that the file you end up with is the file you went after... authenticate the data, not you.
* Reduce or eliminate bandwidth cost to original file providers by spreading the workload out to (among others) home users.
* Manage your download and corresponding upload activity so as not to render your web browser useless. In other words there are caps placed on how much of your bandwidth gets used.
* Do all this without human intervention or giant server farm managing it.
You might look for some settings in your client that will speed things up, but depending on who else is downloading and what their limitations are, these adjustments may have little effect, no effect, or may make things worse.
Best bet is to start the download in the background and forget about it for a while (but don't forget so much that you turn your computer off at night). Look for a present under the tree 13 hours from now.
From what I found poking around on their forums, I believe they used Lightwave for their (extensive) special effects.
