Watch the First 9 Minutes of Serenity

An anonymous reader writes "As reported on FireflyFans.net, Universal is attempting further promotion of the sci-fi action film Serenity by making the first 9 minutes of the movie available online. The clip contains the opening backstory that sets an Alliance assassin on the trail of the ship's crew; it's an effective hook. On Yahoo movies, Serenity is ranked as the number 1 film currently in theaters and is hanging in a top-ten spot in the highest rated movies of all time. Slashdot has previously covered Orson Scott Card's review, the film's opening, an interview with Joss Whedon, and much more. It's all out of love..."

What I said when I got to their website was "Unfortunately, the web site you are using is undesired." And then I left, never to return. Bye asshats. I don't care if you close the gate in your fence to me. There are lots of other playgrounds for me to play in.

Oh, PS, think I'll skip the movie now, too.

This phenomenon you are experiencing has a name. It is denominated as "Whoops. We backfired."

Get rid of that poll too, it's tired and doesn't have a "Serenity, WTF is that?" option!

Is it so hard to use a standard media type?

Why do companies feel like it's right to mave stuff like this that's actually MORE trouble to make incompatible with non-MS/Mac systems?

Seriously. I just do not get this mindset.

You're an idiot. Go get the figures for desktop operating system market share.

    Done that?

Apply half a brainpower to the figures you now have.

Windows is the majority. They made a player solution that the masses will use to watch the 9 minutes.

If you really can't accept than your OS isn't "compatible", then do us all a favour - buy a VMWare licence and stop whining. YOU chose to use Mr Free OS, YOU chose to ignore the 'standard', YOU chose to not watch this preview.

I said the same thing before, but with more reasons why so. It sucks. The characters are not well developed. Like the shepherd who is alive for 5 mins of the movie and is killed. I could feel no emotional bond between that character, the spaceship's captain and myself. Bad acting? Something else is wrong? I don't know, but I can't connect even slightly to the characters of that movie. It seemed like a bunch of boring nonsense.

It amazes me to no end how much hype this movie is getting. It's mostly undeserved in my opinion, but whatever. Since when did my opinion mattered, eh? :)

It's a freakin' awful movie. Are you people that starved for good entertainment?

Definitely not in the top ten. Whoever claimed that is an expert bullshitter.

I agree. It's horrible. The cliches, the cliches...

I don't know what else is on television right now, because I don't watch television (I borrowed it on DVD), but if this is the BEST TV SHOW EVAR, this really, really makes me glad that I gave up on network television. Holy crap.

It's like Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Even More Indulgent And Forcefully Quirky (WINK WINK WINK WINK WINK WINK WINK). Oh yeah, I forgot to add a few pop culture references and snarky one-liners. Zing! There, that should do it.

I can't stand Joss Whedon's writing. He's actually arguably worse than Joe Eszterhas, the man responsible for Showgirls.
