The Man Behind Apple And Pixar
Ant writes "Steve Jobs is the chief executive of two of the most powerful technology brands in the world: Apple and Pixar. But what motivates him? And how does he choose a new washing machine? An article in the Independent explores this much loved and much hated man." From the article: "Alan Deutschmann, a journalist who researched Jobs's middle years for a biography called The Second Coming of Steve Jobs, believes he displays two personalities in his dealings with people: Good Steve and Bad Steve. The Good side is charming, and can make people believe almost anything; that's the side on public view at the rock-star product launches. He's been said to have a 'reality distortion field' - by a mixture of charm and exaggeration, he can make you believe pretty much anything."
I like to eat poo and steve jobs does too!
Apple needs Microsoft to justify their existence, but Microsoft doesn't. MS realizes that at this moment, Mac is a niche platform and they will continue for support Office for Mac until they see Mac as a real threat. MS couldn't care less if Apple disappeared.
On the other hand, if MS disappears (highly unlikely), who will Apple fans point to as the average, price conscious user? Apple's merits and "you-get-what-you-pay for" philosophy only make sense with an alternative such as MS that works but isn't sexy or stylish.
And that's why I can't "buy" into Apple and the Mac platform. I just want to get work done--not show off. I'm not saying OS X is a bad product--far from it. It just seems like owning a Apple product turns people into RDFed Steve fans. That's not what I want to be, sorry.

How many of you fags are whacking your dick reading this??? You (and Apple) suck!

Makes me think fondly of Bill Gates. I mean sure his practices have caused a lot of grief ... but he has some good qualities ... like, for example, he is not Steve Jobs.

any slashdot entry that starts with "Steve Jobs is the chief executive of two of the most powerful technology brands in the world: Apple and Pixar." is for sure, something I do not want to read. Why? Because I like my news and articles to be objective. If I wanted to read a fanboy article, I'd go read some blog/fake news source on the web (Ironic, you betcha).
I'm not sure exactly where the "Independent" stands, seeing as I don't live in the UK. But it disturbs me that I can't find in the begining or end of the article who wrote it. So we have an obvious piece of fan boy or advertisement posing as actual news.
You wouldn't believe this, but there are other technology companies out there than Microsoft, Apple, and Google. I don't mean nVidia, Intel, AMD, ATI, or Oracle either. There are straight up other innovative places out there.
I kind of miss the "Old Slashdot"(TM). You know, where we went crazy over linux running on something. Or where there was new speculative stories about ESR convincing more things to go open source. Or straight up cool hacks. Where is the halloween hack articles. Someone who managed to take the plates out of a harddrive and break the head to make an eeerry screeching noise. Or someone that lit their pumpkin with LED's...
Ohh well, I'm just old and bitter ... I'll go eat my rice pudding and read google news on my iMac running virtual pc.
Ignore the "p2p is theft" trolls, they're just uninformed
Steve Jobs is a faggot who purchases popular software companies and then halts their development on rival platforms. This costs me money and forces me to either retrain and re-purchase, or use the newer and buggier builds on much slower and more expensive hardware.
FUCK YOU STEVE JOBS. You're not a visionary, you're a fucking knob. If I could stab you in the face over the internet, by christ and allah I would.
Go crawl inside your washer/dryer that you love so much.
I think there is a persistent misunderstanding that jobs/apple is technology. Au Contraier: Jobs is 100% marketing. He finds some feature, that some fraction of the market wants, and dresses it up. Like the mac - since windows 98, there has been no real reason to use a mac, and a lot of $$ reasons not to.
So, since his technology is not any better, he resorts to fancy cabinets, or some other such stuff.
Once you understand that jobs is just another madison avenue hypster, trying to convince you that a 50K lexus really is worht 2X a toyota, all else is simple.
If you want to say they "introduced" it first at a certain price point or less, that makes sense (since they WERE the first at that). But they weren't the first for the technology, which you conceded. And it wasn't for the masses, which you also conceded.
My work is done here. Q.E.D.
From looking at your pics, I've noticed that just about all the guys who use Macs in your pictures look, well, flaming gay.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's not my scene at all. I think I'll stick with PCs.
