Ultima V: Lazarus Released

Vistaer writes "After over five years in development, Team Lazarus has finally released their full remake of the classic 80's RPG "Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny". This remake is built as a total conversion for Dungeon Siege, and not only does it retain the original story, characters, and setting of Ultima V, but also adds many new systems and improvements to the Dungeon Siege engine including branching dialogues, day/night cycles, portraits for every character in the game and much much more. Weighing in at just over 500MB, this game could prove to be a delight to many CRPG fans."

You need Dungeon Siege 1 or Legends of Aranna to play this. Just FYI. I like the Thief add on stuff for Unreal Tournament. I don't remember where I got it but this site has a lot of Thief info

Actually, what they meant was that all the *NPCs* have full day/night cycles. A baker will get up in the morning, go work in his shop, grab lunch and dinner at the tavern, and go home to bed at night, for instance. While the original U5 had this feature, Dungeon Siege (and modern RPGs in general) most certainly did not. :)

    ... wow!

When I first heard about this project, I wouldn't have given them a chance. This news really suprised me: a MOD team that actually keeps their focus through 5 long years and finishes the project successfully.

    Congrats to the entire team!

All I can say to the Lazarus folks is... thank you!

Even if I don't have Dungeon Siege myself (and no Windows right now to run that one either, hope that's temporary), this is major news: A really slowly developed community mod of really big scope has been actually finished! I hope this will serve as a big motivation to all of the other modding groups who have these big game remake ambitions. If it happened once, hell, it can happen again! Now I just hope Ultima IX: Redemption and Ultima VIII: Exile will get more wind under their wings, they seem to have accomplished so much and if Lazarus got their stuff together, they can, too!

So thank you, Lazarus, and good luck, the rest of the modders everywhere! Truly, this has been a great year for everyone who's been quietly working on fanstuff in their basements, hope next year is, too! =)
