OSx86 Shutdown Rumors Explained

n.e.watson writes "The AP has run an article that addresses recent rumors on the internet about Apple Legal shutting down the OSx86 Project, with a statement from an OSx86 administrator. From the article: 'The OSx86 Project Web site stated Apple had served it with a notice on Thursday citing violations of the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and the site was reviewing all of its discussion forum postings as a result. The site has always aimed to adhere to copyright laws and is working with Apple to ensure no violations exist, according to a statement by the site administrator.'"

Why do so many people think they have a right to dictate the terms of other people's businesses?

Because they do! Of the people, by the people, for the people. Have you been so bamboozled by corporate control freaks that you now believe that they really do run the country (which it appears they practically do - for now)? Do you think that's a good thing? Have you ever taken any history or civics classes at all? Is there even a shred of concern for the common weal, any ethical considerations at all, when you open your mouth to parrot the party line? Seems unlikely. I'd like to put all the two bit uneducated libertarian asshats who think anarchy is the only road to freedom on an island where they could play lord of the flies for a while.

We the people goddamn well do dictate the terms of other people's business. We grant them temporary monopolies, we enforce those laws, and we do it to promote progress in the sciences and the useful arts, for our benefit. We do this with the expectation that the beneficiaries of our largess will reply in kind, and we expect and are entitled by law to have fair use access to the artificial monopolist's efforts. We protect the monopolists for our common benefit. That's the system.

And if you don't like it, you are the one who is out of line here. Just because a bunch of crooks would have us abdicate control of our country and hand them the reigns doesn't mean we all have to act like bootlicking toadies and capitulate.

Getting our country back will be a tough row to hoe, though, because the democratic process depends on the public being properly apprised of the issues. And when the media itself is at the center of the power grab, that's a tough job.
