Windows Vista Delayed Again
Trenty writes "Ars Technica is reporting that Microsoft has delayed Windows Vista yet again. Jim Allchin told analysts that the OS would not ship in January of 2007, which is a 1-2 month delay. Oddly, even though they are citing the need for more time to tweak security, business editions will available to volume licensing customers before the close of the year."
LOL, psychological success of multiple releases of Linux. That's funny - you made me laugh. By psychological, of course you mean the emotional breakdowns caused by the following:
1. Having to type 100 commands to listen to an mp3;
2. Scratch #1 - mp3 isn't a "free format" so you're not using it anyway;
3. Dealing with thousands of Linux whackos like you;
4. Lack of hardware accelerated video;
5. Hard disks that lose like 15% of their capacity when formatted with ext3;
6. Grub not letting anyone boot back into XP to fix the mess that the text mode only install just created;
7. No games (no, sudoku for GNOME doesn't count);
8. No iPod support;
9. Can't write DVDs;
10. Having to recompile your kernel to support features of a NETWORKING program (wtf?);
11. Stupid communities who preach communism over good software;
12. Stupid developers who name releases things like "Assy Asshole" or "Crappy Crawfish;"
13. Idiots (you fall into this group, too!);
14. Websites like Slashdot where assholes congregate and bitch about anything other than Linux;
15. In general, stupidity.
Yeah, that's definitely "psychological" success, since it's most definitely not REAL success. After dealing with all the stress generated by those 15 things, anyone would believe a crappy platform like Linux is succeeding.
How exactly can Microsoft make Vista a compelling upgrade other than releasing new game titles that will not run on Windows XP?
They could follow Apple's lead; with each 0.1 incremental OS update, Apple releases a new version of iLife and iWork that (artificially) require the new OS.

You whiny little crazies are such a good laugh. Everyone makes vaporware announcements, stoopid. If buyers are that dumb with respect to MSFT (look, I'm an investor too!), then fuck em.
The problem with your comparison is that Windows is a mature product, whereas OS X is not. OS X releases have been relatively frequent simply because so much stuff has needed significant improvements (most notably, performance, but also things like UI). You have probably noticed OS X releases are becoming less frequent - this is happening because the product is maturing.
Comparing commercial release schedules to OSS is largely nonsensical, because the latter has none of the pressures and/or responsibilities of the former.
