New Guitar Hero 2 Info
Heartless Gamer writes "New Guitar Hero 2 info revealed. The game will feature in-game endorsements and real-world venues. There will be at least two new characters: Dax DeVille, the Rockabilly formerly known as King Kendall after Harmonix' Jason Kendall, and a still unnamed Norwegian death rocker."
Can't have a guitar hero thread without the required link to http://www.guitarherobrokemyknee.com/. Thankfully fark photoshopped the guy today to mock him further.
I look forward to guitar hero 2 as I am starting to get bored with the backtracks on guitar hero even with my fantastic muted strings and mis-timed plucking on top of them.

I made my living for 5 years as a touring songwriter / frontman for a rock band, and I expected very little from Guitar Hero -- how could it be anything like playing a real guitar? But I LOVE the game -- the guitar controller is suprisingly good (I'd like it to be heavier tho'), and the easier settings let anyone jump right in and rock out. In my opinion, it is best in multiplayer with a group of friends. Personally, I can't wait for Guitar Hero 2.
You'll also get a much better rush from stealing actual cars and killing real people than you will from playing GTA.
...so I've heard, anyway.

Is there anywhere you can go to give it a try? I think you'd answer a lot of your own questions.
... at the proper time, you hit the little flipper thing where you'd normally strum a guitar.
In case that's impossible... In order to successfully "hit" a note, you have to do a combination of two things:
1) You push the proper fret button on the neck of the guitar, and
2)
Just like a real guitar, you can hit the fret button whenever you want (well, as early as you want). And just like a real guitar, nothing happens until you actually strum (there is a little tongue thing that sticks out from the guitar that you flip up and down to strum at the right time). So the dual challenge of hitting the right fret button as well as getting the strum timing right is, well, fun.
I'm not sure what you mean by "pressure sensitive".
Hope that helps. As I've said before, I strongly recommend actually trying the game before you make any further judgements. I've been a gamer a long time, and this is near the top of the list of best games EVAR!

There was a period from June through a week or so ago during which it was almost impossible to find just the controller; no retailers had them in stock. However, they have reappeared at many retailers in the last couple of weeks (I just got my replacement at Best Buy a couple of weeks ago).
Even if you can't find it in stores, you can always order directly from Red Octane. I wouldn't expect any controller changes other than the wireless addition.
Harmonix, I have one request - include a 'karaoke' mode where one can a) have the lyrics scroll by, karaoke style, and b) turn off the vocal track for the song.

I think one of the most important things the game teaches you is RHYTHM! Plus, it really helps you *feel* the song while pushing you to keep up the rhythm like teaching one to climb a rope by lighting it on fire. I personally enjoy the aspect that it's *not* like playing a real guitar. The challenge is real. The feeling is real. And most importantly, the FUN is real! I've actually been inspired to learn some of the songs I play on guitar hero, and not just because of the embedded suggestion that "You should consider getting a real guitar at some point" (it really says that on one of the loading screens).
Not to mention the fact that they need to hit a sweet price point that would be largely difficult with having so many buttons as you propose. I hear naysayers like you say "it's not a real instrument" all the time. To this day, I have yet to have any of these people who can outperform me in the game OR on an actual guitar. Maybe a snare drum isn't a real instrument to you because it only has one "button". I had to play a stupid plastic recorder in middle school all the time, and it seriously turned me off from wanting to learn music. Guitar hero has the complete opposite effect for me.
If you really want an electronic guitar learning experience, check out FretLight! http://www.fretlight.com/ It costs quite a bit more than guitar hero, but it's a real quality guitar.
Oh, and another rebuttal to the "it's not a real instrument" claim: Check out these hacks that enthusiasts have made, among them turning the controller into a sampler and fitting a real guitar to play the game:
