Bruce Schneier Blasts Politicians, Media

An anonymous reader writes, "In his latest newsletter, security author Bruce Schneier delivered a scathing critique of politicians and the media for promoting fear and ultimately doing exactly what the terrorists want. Citing several cases of false alarms, Schneier writes: 'Our politicians help the terrorists every time they use fear as a campaign tactic. The press helps every time it writes scare stories about the plot and the threat... Our job is to think critically and rationally, and to ignore the cacophony of other interests trying to use terrorism to advance political careers or increase a television show's viewership.' Are the terrorists laughing at us?"

    Ok...Hear me out on this one....

    Slashdot is anti-linux/open source ...

    I'm sure you are asking...WHAT?!?!?!

    Think about it: all of us 'users' submit stories in the hope that the 'editors' will put them on the front page. Dosen't it seem that this is the same as the users asking Microsoft to fix bugs/patches and hope that they get accepted? Digg's model sems to fix the ideology of open surce MUCH better than the current Slashdot model. Seems that the open source community is fine when thrown a bone, but the underlying principals that could care less about. If slashdot was interested in the "free" exchange of information (like their beloved linux), YOU users wuld demand changes like you demand all software be free (RMS).

    Mod me down, and bury this story, but you know it to be true....
