Bungie Promises "Big News" Next Week
Via 1up news, Bungie's statement that they'll have some big news to share next week about the Halo series. From their post: "A bunch of stuff is going down to celebrate the 5th anniversary of a little game we like to call Halo. In November 2001, Halo launched alongside the Xbox console, and the rest is history. Next year, Halo 3 will conclude the story arc begun all those years ago and next week, we'll take a long lingering look at the series to date. There will also be some pretty BIG surprises and maybe announcements. Who can say?" 1up has posted up a blow-by-blow account of their time with Halo 3's multiplayer, which is well worth checking out for anyone shunning Gears for Halo 2 this week.
I'm sure I'm not going to be the first, but.. The announcement that there's going to be news next week is news? Why don't you just wait until next week and then report the actual news?
A future announcement? This is totally unexpected. Shouldn't they have previously announced that they would make an announcement of impending announcement?
Man, Slashdot is getting better by the second.
And you can drive two vehicles at once!
MEGATON!
But it will be huge! Promise!
If Jesus wants me it knows where to find me.
After Halo 3 Bungie won't be owned be Microsoft anymore!
Probably wishful thinking.
they should port halo 3 to the ps3, that would be fun as hell, tho i can see it now, running a xbox360 enmu program on the ps3 to play halo3 shoot even halo 2 the controller has enough buttons to match the xbox's
"Halo 2 available for windows XP"
i've heard it's going to be available for vista, but i'm not paying for that OS.
They will announce the original Halo as a download for Xbox Live, with HD resolution and Live multiplayer (co/op and d/m). Remember you heard it here first.

Kind of like CBS. They bought CSI, stuck it in a time slot, and practically forgot about it. They promoted their remake of The Fugitive to no end. The Fugitive flopped, CSI became HUGE and spawned clones and spin-offs.
Ah... marketing.
Comment forecast: Bits of genius surrounded by a sea of mediocrity.
Marathon 4. Exclusive for the Mac.
Bungie announces that the 2007 release of the final game in the Halo Trilogy will also be their final game for Microsoft platforms.
Ashtonishingly, Bungies choice of next-gen platform is not the Sony PS3 or Nintendos Wii. According to his Bill Gates (philanthropist, adonis, chairman of Bungie owners Microsoft and all around lovely man - heil Bill), "Bungie will only produce games for Apple computers now". "This strategy change was on the cards from day one, it's part of the reason we bought Bungie".
The first Apple game, expected in late 2007, is the first episode in a new Halo-like trilogy specially targetted at the Apple userbase. Called "Anal", the series will center upon a fearsome warrior called goatse. At last, Mac users are to get the first person action game that they deserve.
In order of likelyhood...
1. Guest appearance of BFG 9000 from Doom
2. Guest appearance by James Bond
3. Guest appearance of Gordon Freeman
4. Changing the name of the project to "Duke Nukem' Forever"
5. Cortana is realy a man.
6. The Protoss, er Covanent forces are joining forces with Martha Stuart.
7. The Zerg... er Flood can now be cooked to gain 2784 HP and 4900 MP over 30 seconds. Must remain seated while eating.
This sig isn't original enough, it's time to come up with something witty...
A matching mug and oven mitt set!

Like, World of Halocraft or something.

Ladies and gentlemen, as you may have heard, today marks the fifth anniversary of a little game franchise that we like to call Halo.
Wild applause.
And as you undoubtedly already know, we've called a press conference today to announce some big and exciting news concerning the future of the game. Now, I know some of you may be wondering exactly what could be done to perfect this formula -- that is to say, exactly WHAT can be done to improve upon perfection? And to those of you with such doubts, I can point to the development of Halo 3 and say nothing but the following five words:
YOU CAN SEE YOUR FEET.
That's right, after years of grueling research and development, the Halo team has now given players the ability to see their own feet while they move, simply by looking down. This adds a whole new element of realism to the game, and allows us to create a whole new type of gaming challenge within the Halo world -- using the fluid dynamics of our physics engine, inattentive players will now be able to trip over loose gravel, stub their toes into door frames, and, of course, navigate jumping puzzles with ease. The revolutionary "textile fastening engine" will determine how far the player has traveled and convert that data into an actual REAL-TIME loosening of laces -- Leading to inevitable pratfalls for the inattentive player. And, most exciting of all, the players' footwear will be upgradable with custom designs created specifically for the Halo world by Nike, Reebok, and Ecko!
Here at Bungie, we believe that innovation is the key to creating exciting and fresh games that resonate with our audience. As such, it is technologies like this Revolutionary Foot Engine (revFeX) that keep us poised on the cutting edge of game development. Our highly savvy customer base grows more demanding with each release and it's important that we keep the nature of our products in step with what it is that hardcore gamers desire: The ability to add more and more meaningless bells and whistles to the same game that they've all been playing since Wolfenstein 3-d.
Thank you very much, and good night.
8. Cancellation of the Halo Movie we already knew was cancelled.

A native Linux port!
They've been bought by Google.
Halo has been renamed "Halo BETA", the Mac client has been deprecated, and the color scheme has been updated.
yay! they're going to announce what the heck happened to the master chief life size statue thingy at the Media Play that closed down in my city! He had a little nacklace that said "Sorry, not for sale" after they got like 10,000 offers for it but refused to explain to anyone where it was going or if anyone already bought it or what. Everyone has been wondering that for months now.
but seriously, I hope they announce that Halo 2 for the PC won't be Vista only cuz that's a terrible idea and I'm not upgrading until SP1 at the earliest.

9. The Halo movie is actually going in to realease and was secretly being devoloped as a joint project with Pixar under the working tittle "Duke Nuke'm Forever". The movie engine and content will be release to game stores in 3 months after release and fans are invited to "play the movie."

...
Um, "play the movie"?
Why would anyone want to get burned alive and shredded by weapons fire?
I have enough nightmares every Veteran's Day and Memorial Day to deal with, thanks.
Now, if I could play the movie with cheats

Maybe "Halo Online"?
There were rumours a while back that Bungie were thinking of doing a MMOG, then someone spotted a job ad for at Bungie asking for "MMOG experience".
It'd make sense if Halo 3 is meant to wrap up the series, as Bungie/M$ can switch to a subscription based revenue stream to keep the franchise (and cash flow) going.
Why are people being dumb? Does every post have to be some stupid not-so-funny joke?
It's obvious that on PS3 launch day, Bungie will announce a Halo 3 Release Date. What that date is beats me, but they'll announce it and it won't change.
News next week? OK, tell us next week. Until then, quick wasting our time.
Besides, Slashdot only publishes positive Wii news (unless there's a Google-Halo tie-in)...
No, no, due to the major studio cancellation of the movie, Bungie has reached a deal with production company Rooster Teeth to complete the Halo movie project. It will be exclusively released via the Xbox Marketplace for $8 per download.
Fanatically anti-fanatical
..regresses even further backwards by trying to generate hype about the release of hype. Those crazy market strategists, what will they think up next? Only on SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY, hot new news about the upcoming news release about the conference about the article about the announcement of the new upcoming thing-a-ma-bob that will stun, shock, and amaze you...eventually! Why did I even click on reply? I think my life has been cheapened by this news and the time wasted writing this. :)
Promote true freedom - support standards and interoperability.
Why do I think this? It's all based on the fact that the Peter Jackson-produced (not directed) Halo movie which was in trouble when two studios pulled out, was being shopped around, and previously Bungie said it's all good....
These are all guesses based only on what I've read over at Ain't It Cool News and other places.
Could their big announcement be about the Halo RTS?
Halo 2 on legendary went from impossible to simple because of this (well, as well as memorizing the positions of the instant kill lightning quick jackal snipers...Bungie, please don't do that again. It is stupid that the Master Chief and the Arbiter are the only characters in the game that can die from a single shot to the toe by a jackal sniper).
Of course, to give the GPP some credit, in Halo 2 the plasma pistol is ONLY useful for taking down shields. In Halo 1 it was a formidable weapon in its own right.
"Empathise with stupidity, and you're halfway to thinking like an idiot." - Iain M. Banks
I couldn't care any less about Halo 3 if I tried. Now excuse me, I'm going to go play Gears of War.
"A mind, once expanded by a new idea, never returns to it's original dimensions." -a Super King Buffet fortune cookie
To me, the Plasma Pistol is the worst weapon in the game (well, besides the laser thingies and the Battle Rifle). It takes a long time to charge, it moves slow, and it doesn't pack a punch. It can take shields down, but if your shot doesn't hit, you have to recharge. Plus, the Plasma Pistol/Battle Rifle combination makes you switch weapons in combat, which is never a good idea. Maybe you guys use different tactics than me, but I always have better results with the Rocket Launcher, Sword, Sniper Rifle, Shotgun, SMG/Pistol combination, Needler/Needler combination, or even just a Plasma Grenade.
