Indiana Allows BP To Pollute Lake Michigan
An anonymous reader writes "Indiana regulators exempted BP from state environmental laws to clear the way for a $3.8 billion expansion that will allow the company to refine heavier Canadian crude oil. They justified the move in part by noting the project will create 80 new jobs. The company will now be allowed to dump an average of 1,584 pounds of ammonia and 4,925 pounds of sludge into Lake Michigan every day."
Ammmonia isn't bad! It's our friend! Besides, I don't see how this dumping of ammonia is all that different from all the humans, animals, and fish that are already peeing in Lake Michigan. Are we going to stop the fish from peeing in the water?
It's not offtopic, dumbass. It's orthogonal.
1. wages on oil rigs are very high, $100k isn't optimistic at all.
2. you think the only benifit to the state is the income tax? talk about ignorance. do you have any idea how much BP would have to pay in fee's to get the license to dump it in the first place. not to mention all the flow on business (and tax) from other business's servicing the expansion of the company to employ 80 new people.
by the end of it all i wouldn't be at all suprised if bp was forking over more then 100 million. BP are one of the most environmentally friendly businesses out there, i mean for fucks sake they make more solar panels then anyone, you hippies are such a fickle bunch!
If you mod me down, I will become more powerful than you can imagine....
Eli Lilly is evil which is why i dumped their stock, fuck them twice. most republicans here just vote a straight ballot every time, how do i know? because my father is one and i was a pollster for him as a kid.
the world i live in is a steaming pile of shit thanks to teh greed you support with your votes, *internet* but since you;re a woman you're already wrong */internet*
first off, i have lived in cincinnati which is actually the dirtiest place i've ever been but since it was only for 2 years i don't count it, as for the rest i'm an avid, voracious reader both online and off and i talk to plenty of people worldwide, i'm not a fox-news dittohead
try working a shit-stain low wage job without insurance constantly being harassed by the cops for being poor and maybe you'd be a prick too (fuck you).
Not only do they have the worst drivers in the country, the worst tollroad, schizophrenic time zones, a blatantly racist, ignorant, and uneducated voter base, but now they're doing this to the LAKE?? We Chicagoans get our drinking water from the lake. I don't care how many filters it goes through before it comes to my house - I don't want an extra 4,925 pounds of 'sludge' per day in my source of drinking water. What is 'sludge' anyway? I'd normally never say or do ANYTHING but this is ridiculous! What a step backwards for Indiana. Oh wait. They're pretty much as backwards as they come.
