Japanese Researchers Aim to Replace the Internet

Gary writes "Japanese communications minister Yoshihide Suga said Friday that Japan will start research and development on technology for a new generation of network that would replace the Internet, eyeing bringing the technology into commercial use in 2020. The envisaged network is expected to ensure faster and more reliable data transmission, and have more resilience against computer virus attacks and breakdowns."

I know that press kits pass for news these days, but this is a new low.

On a separate note, congratulations America! On July 7 you finished working to pay your taxes for the year. The rest is yours to keep, until January 1, 2008. Then you get to start all over again. July 11 was the magic date before the Bush tax cuts. When Hillary takes over, that pay-off date will likely be pushed out to August or September. It's sad that both parents usually have to work to make ends meet these days, with real estate costing what it does and all. But it's even sadder that our tax code deliberately punishes 2-income families with the AMT. Your best bet is to hide as much of your income now as you can afford to in tax-deferred investments if you want to keep Uncle Sam's grabby hands out of your pockets.
