The Russian Mafia Doesn't Like Spam Either

wattrlz writes "Apparently the current champion of v1*gr4 spamming solicited some of the wrong email boxes. Alexy Tolstokozhev was recently found murdered in his palatial spam-bought estate near Moscow. The implications of this hands on method of system administration are staggering." Update: 10/12 15:28 GMT by Z : Good story. Unfortunately, probably a fake.

BuddyJesus, this is your subconscious speaking. This post isn't really on Slashdot, your brain has simply injected it into your awareness.

I've sat back long enough, but today is that last straw, and I need a word with you, the conscious mind.

To put it simply, you suck. Nobody cares what you think, least of all me, and most people you speak to secretly wish you'd go away. You do actually detect this, but in some self-defense mechanism, you ignore it and pass it straight down to me, the subconscious.

    In conclusion, fuck you.

I wonder how much it costs to get this kind of thing done - I'd be happy to start a donation pool to round-up as much funding as it would take to get all these guys wiped out. Maybe that will be the trick, in the end? Make spamming too dangerous for anyone to risk getting involved?

    Dude: chill. the fuck. out.

This is so important I will say it again:

    Chill. the fuck. out.

You and I are basically on the same side. I AGREE with you that spam *and* junk mail are nuisances. My point was that we can't really complain until we convert to a different system without their huge weaknesses. Yes, that means both email *and* postal mail should have some kind of process that allows tracing of fraudulent or annoying bulk communications.

What I hate is this attitude that, "We're going to keep using a crappy system with known, obvious flaws, adamantly REFUSE to remove them, and then blame people who take advantage of them." That's just stupid. Light a match, THEN bitch about the darkness, not the other way around.

My other point was: whatever your solution, don't infringe on MY right to get the kinds of "spams" you don't like. On that, we agree: *for* me, those communications are solicited and I should keep getting them. For you, they're not and you shouldn't. Just remember: some people like this stuff. (Somehow, bitching about people who have the minority taste for homosexuality is taboo here, but bitching about people who have the minority taste for "spam" isn't.)

but you can't seriously argue that he ought to be tortured for it. I most certainly can. The spammer has tortured all of us a little; it is entirely fair that we impose EXACTLY the same total amount of torture on him, to the best of our ability to determine it. It's his (or her) own damn fault that he racked up an insanely huge penalty.
