Where are Wii?

WirePosted writes "Santa is in trouble, it looks like supplying the Christmas need for a Nintendo Wii game console is in jeopardy as stocks wither under constant and heavy demand. Conspiracy believers suggest this is an orchestrated move on behalf of Nintendo." Since this happens to be what I want for Christmas, I hope they work it out, or my loving wife has already found one.

Yeah, I don't get Nintendo at all. How can they expect a jew to pay a 100% premium on anything?!?

The big problem with the PS3, and Xbox 360, is that backward compatibility isn't a given. You might do ok, depending on the game, but it's not like you can scrap your PS2 for a PS3 and come up roses. Same on the Xbox.

You're right about the price, though. If you end up spending as much as you would on a Xbox 360 or PS3, it sort of negates the whole "I can get a Wii and Xbox 360 for the price of a PS3" argument. I got lucky and snagged a Wii early on. It's a fun console, but I'm hoping that game developers start cranking some more stuff out for it.

    Just a few comments:

    1. The Wii seems to be largely unavailable in the US, but elsewhere supply is just fine. They are in stock all over Europe, as far as I can tell. Demand is lower here, because, well, people actually KNOW what they're getting when they buy the Wii. Sorry, couldn't resist there ... ;)

    2. Those Sony fanboys are still enjoying their PS2 consoles, as far as I can tell. Sony's strategy is a long term one; the PS3 will continue to be an exciting purchase when Nintendo releases a beefier Wii2 and Microsoft has finally pulled out of the console business that's been nothing but a continuing stream of major disasters to them. Well, whether you agree with that last short outburst of flamebait right now or not is entirely up to you, but: Can you still buy an original Xbox at retail? How about a Gamecube? Well then, what about a PS2? Then, go and have another close look at what current gen systems (including the Wii here, for peace of mind) the PS2 is still outselling to this very day, to finally reconsider: Who has been doing nearly as well as Sony?

80% of the appeal of the Wii is wanting something you cannot have. Once you get one you realize there is really nothing to it other than the Wii-mote and after awhile it feels like a gimmick. Just get a gamecube or a playstation 2 and open yourself to about a zillion $20 games.
