Shots of the New Tecmo Bowl for the DS

Kotaku has a bunch of screenshots of the new Tecmo Bowl game for the Nintendo DS. Purists shouldn't be disappointed with this game, as it seems (relatively) true to form. The main departure that seems to be drawing the ire of play testers is the absence of Bo. I guess he doesn't know football after all.

The main departure that seems to be drawing the ire of play testers is the absense of Bo. I was about to ask if Bo was still invincible in the new version, and am sad to find out he will not be included in the game.

    P.S. you misspelled "absence"

This was the best football game ever. It really captured everything that's fun about the game, and it's simple enough that you don't have to be able to move the joystick 30 different ways at the same time.

I'm going to buy a DS just for this game.

I thought the fun part in football was spending 20 minutes trying to decide if a player "made a football move" before dropping the ball. I really do enjoy the insane wrangling over goofy rules in football; especially with instant replay. Seriously though, Super Tecmo Bowl was great fun, but it really wasn't great football. Passing was especially dumbed down, and the AI was hilarious. If you got into the open you could turn the whole field into a ballet by running in circles. Oh, and the game was frustrating too, with AI that cheated right in your face. I can't remember how many times I almost threw my controller when an AI runningback suddenly started running twice as fast as I could right when I tried to tackle him. They can leave that part out of the DS version.

Eh. I was a fan of Tecmo Super Bowl. This looks like it's a remake of the original Tecmo Bowl, which was good, but only had limited teams and stats and stuff. I'm waiting for TSB so I can run Barry Sanders up and down the field a few times, watch people bounce of Christian Okeyea(sp? the FB from the Chiefs), and block extra points with LT.

I hope this game does well so they release the Super Bowl version. *fingers crossed*

I cheated right back. On offense, with whatever passing play was the 49ers' #3 you could throw to the tight end right when he starts to turn into his route and the defender will rarely be able to stop it. On defense, you can sneak the nose tackle down a pixel as you charge and he'll walk right by the center. At the end of the season it came down to the computer's cheating 50-mile-per-hour rushing touchdowns versus my cheating tight end touchdown drives and safeties.
