  1. Avira on What Free Antivirus Do You Install On Windows? · · Score: 4, Informative

Avira Anti-vir. It is good, fully functioned with updates, custom scheduled scans and on access scanning. The only thing you have to deal with is a daily ad that you can dismiss by hitting OK and it won't pop up for another 24 hours. Also it uses up half the resources of AVG, McAfee, Norton.

  3. I can tell you exactly why. on Why Are There No Popular Ultima Online-Like MMOs? · · Score: 1
As a former player from 99-03 in UO. The simple fact is when Ultima Online was first out it was your major only choice. It was what WoW is now, the logical choice.

So with no other place to go, (figuring that there was miridian 59 and some NWN on aol.) Ultima Online had a collection of players. It had all styles of players because it was the only thing out worth playing for an MMO. You had your PK's, you had your adventures, you had your social players and crafters. The majority of the players couldn't stand getting murdered and losing their items, but what other game was available to them. There was none, that is why when EverQuest hit the market there were tons of non-PK's jumped ship to a safer world. So OSI/EA decided we need a safe place so we don't lose the majority of our adventurers. So they created the two facet world with a safe zone trammel. This pleased the sheep and some of the wolves died out.

So then you had a split player base and without enough sheep(non-pk's) to feed the wolves(pks) the game lost the whole heart racing excitiment of fight or flight for your life.

So as the MMORPG market kept opening up. The player base and game kept changing. Shadowbane came about, more wolves left. WoW came about, nearly everyone who could run WoW on their computers left UO.

OLD UO can not work in today's market. People have choices in their games now. What pu&&y is going to choice a safe RP wow server over a game where they can craft bad A&& gear but they have to worry about it being ripped away from them because their combat skills suck.

Basically games that have a realistic set of player vs player rules, that involving killing your oponent and enjoying the loot of their corpses; is not nearly as fun for the wolves without the sheep.

Wolves vs Wolves you might as well be playing arena in WoW or playing a first person shooter.

That is the closest as it will come to restoring glory days.

Thanks for mentioning UO. UO in the beginning had the best concept of an environment without guidelines. Now everyone wastes away on a single path like WOW or Tabula Rusa etc. I have to play the strongest class, I have to acquire the same weapon as everyone else. I must use the same build as everyone else. I cannot customize my clothes, my hair color(limited), I have to wait til im such a level to acquire a mount because it would be unrealistic to have a horse without being a certain level(dumbest idea ever). I think its ridiculous that you have to pick a class and get 1 set of skills and 1 play style. All new games offer no variety like Ultima Online once offered. It feels like a never ending single player RPG. You get to max level and repeat fun games or the same end level dungeon over and over. Maybe DarkFall Online will release before they make DX11/opengl4.0 and have to re-code the entire game.

Remember how much fun that was for you and it happened what once in your play time? In ultima online that kind of grieving was a daily thing.

I would log on some days and play for hours with out wanting to up my skill %'s (like leveling in wow) I would spend 4 hours running around to guild houses, and gambling at houses. Unfortunately like society the sheep have become so scared that they want a games where the wolves have been put into cage. It is crap. Not only for the wolves but the sheep are missing out on the element that made MMORPG a success, that element was uncertainty every day brought about a different element. In wow it is rare to find this element. The world is set up to be more persistent then anything. In games like UO and even though Vanguard was a flop it had the element of uncertainty.

However a outstanding MMORPG will not be created until the sheep get some courage. I think however WOW is an outstanding thing; I think through sheep's effort to gear out and do controlled battle grounds their courage will swell and they might branch out to a more dangerous game. Let us hope Darkfall online brings back the glory of what an MMORPG needs to be.

But instead after 3 more tries I went with the latest Mandrake. Anyhow besides relating with this guy, I would like to add that "understands why people don't switch to Linux" Look at the not so long ago XP SP2 patch, that patch locked people out of their machines and if you didn't know that you needed to replace your userinit file or fix the registry, you would probably resort to reformatting your windows pc. Windows is a crap shoot, the only thing I like about it is, all the games I play run natively on windows.
