Barack Obama Wins Democratic Nomination
An anonymous reader was one of many who noted that Barack Obama has claimed the Democratic nomination having secured enough delegates and super-delegates to claim victory. Of course, technically this assumes that the supers all vote as they say they will and they are free to change their minds. So no doubt we'll continue to hear debate on this subject until either the convention or Hillary steps down.
To be honest, Bush has been an embarrassment to the USA. Barrack can only do better (if he gets elected). The fact that there are numerous youtube videos that rip it out of a countrys president should be enough to make people want to vote him out.
Unless Obama's victory translates into immediately described implications for Vista, how does this news end up on Slashdot? Or is the election campaign qualify as being "for nerds" now?

Given that Obama voted for the Patriot Act and to fund the Iraq war, I'd say that whatever values he's claiming to hold are weak at best.
His resume looks good, considering he actually taught constitutional law for many years in top colleges. But his voting record shows that he doesn't adhere to the principles he taught and swore to uphold.
I think he is as honorable a politician as you can find today.

McCain is the MOST anti-torture candidate. THE MOST. PERIOD. He was extremely outspoken on the topic in the Senate, it's one of his areas of contention and strife between him and the current president. He has the moral high ground on this. He's literally been there, done that on the receiving end.
After all, you're all paying for a navy, though most of you are landlocked. Most of you are paying for an airforce, though most of your bases are abroad. Most of you have never seen a foreigner, but you still have an army abroad. Most of you will never be invaded but you still have a standing army.

Interesting you mention 'third party'. That is what we need now. Buraq Hussein Obama has exploited a mistake in the organizational structure of the democratic party election machine. Democratic convention delegates were chosen based on the total population of a state and not on that fraction who were Democratic Party members. Therefore a state with a tiny manipulatable minority of democrats could greatly magnify their clout in the national convention as they will be voting with the clout of millions of non members. Such is the glory of voting by 'congressional district'. Now if this tiny minority is largely one ethnic group that votes as a bloc in the face of all other ethnics that do not, then an even tinier group, that ethnic group can swing the entire state, like a four percent share of the stock in a corporation constituting a controlling interest. In this way, Buraq Hussein Obama has strung together southern redneck republican states and western Mormon republican states that have no possibility of actually voting democratic in the general election into a working controlling interest of a national major party that stands to increase greatly its congressional representation in the coming election. Hillary won her states in well populated core democratic constituencies of working class Americans that will probably also go Democratic in the fall general election. Hillary IS more electable. And Buraq Hussein Obama Sotoro (his Indonesian muslim stepfather's name, second husband following his mothers divorce from her first muslim husband) knows this well. Best scenario: Hillary goes to the convention, gets rebuffed by Wall street money controlling votes in the credentials committee; then on the floor, Buraq's people move to 'nominate by acclamation', a tactic Obama delegates will want in order to later escape blame for blame for voting for him inasmuch as there will be no documentary record of how they voted when 'acclamation' is called for. Upon hearing that, Hillary's delegates get up as one and file out of the convention, vowing to hold their own convention 'across the street' for the real Democratic Party. Call the new party created this way the 'Unionist Party' or the Progressive Party'. There is ample history for just this scenario. Before the War Between the States this happened to the Democratic Party in the election of 1860. It happened again in the election of 1900 when the Republican Party split and Theodore Roosevelt was elected on the Progressive Party ticket. Hillary should avoid all contact with this muslim manchurian candidate like the plague.
Most welfare recepiants are on it for less then 2 years, but most of the welfare money goes to long-term recipiants.
Lets pick some numbers and times that in the middle of the ranges you gave:
20% of people are on welfare for 6 months
15% on for 9 months
19% for 1.5 years
27% for 3.5 years
20% for 5 years
Now if you took a specific point in time you would have:
4.1% of people who when they are done will have been on welfare for 6 months
4.6% of people for 9 months
11.7% of people for 1.5 years
38.7% of people for 3.5 years
40.9% of people for 5 years
If you look at the whole range and assume a minimum time on welfare of 6 months you always end up with 70+% of the money going to long term (2+ years) recipiants.
That sure sounds like a problem to me.

This could very well be a man who isn't for equality but political revolution. To some of you that sounds attractive. To me that scares the hell out of me. I'm afraid one day we will no longer be encouraged to be individuals and destroy our human spirit instead we will be encouraged to do what is best for the hive. After all I'm only one man, why should I be happy when society suffers? How very evil of me to want to be happy. We've seen that when social programs roll in so do the leeches from other countries to take advantage of it. That result would be that the U.S. no longer is a haven for hard working foreigners who are educated that come here to work and compete. It would inturn be a haven for the lazy foreigners who come here to drink beer.

It's patronizing and condescending because he's saying that if only things were better off for these people, they'd be going blue in droves. God forbid that these people are proud Americans who have values and traditions that they hold near and dear, it's that their values and traditions are a crutch to deal with the fact that the world is too hard for them. Imagine if he had said religion, guns, and cultural pride are the opiate of the masses and you get an idea of what people in the red states hear in his quote.
