RIAA Sues 19-Year-Old Transplant Patient

NewYorkCountryLawyer writes "Just when you think they've reached rock bottom, it seems the RIAA always finds room to sink a little lower. This time they've sued an innocent, 19-year-old transplant patient, hospitalized with pancreatitis and needing islet cell transplants. Although the young Pittsburgh lady claims that she did not infringe any copyrights, she failed to answer the complaint in time, and a default judgment was taken against her. A Pittsburgh area lawyer has stated that he will represent her pro bono and make a motion to open up the default."

While I do have sympathy for the girl, I shall certainly not condone treating people differently based on their income levels or their medical conditions (I'll grant that mental conditions are a weird case). Makes me sound like an ass, but that's what I think.

    Cheers!

You are saying that because the RIAA sued her, she is probably guilty.

Nope, I'm saying she's 19 and has an internet connection* so she is probably guilty.

    * the article is actually pretty light on this and she might not have an internet connection. Although if she didn't have one, I think that'd be MUCH more relevant then her being ill and so would have been mentioned.

    Let me say this:

"NewYorkCountryLawyer" is less than human, of less worth than a rotting carcass. He is a liar, a personal with no morals, someone without that fundamental fibre that lets us recognise people as of value. I hope he is mutilated and tortured on the way to hell's gates where he will scream for eternity, if such is the case. Or disappear forever, the world a better place for lack of his repulsive subform. He will not be remembered by anyone, the maggots in his being disappearing forever. That is my honest opinion, for people like that should not enjoy life.

I'm the last one here to sympathize with RIAA, but these headlines on slashdot are getting more and more sensationalist every day.

You must be new here. RIAA/MPAA related articles draw comments (and hence, ad revenue) from the "new nerds" here like moths to a flame. Apparently, being a nerd on Slashdot these days means "being entertained via copyright infringement".

NYCL's articles make it easy to rationalize such, you see, while avoiding the larger issues.

After all, infringing the copyrights of evil corporations, especially when their representative organization is so obviously wrong? Why, that's almost noble: Hell, one could say it's akin to the civil rights movement in the 60's or colonists fighting against Britain in the Revolutionary War!

Only, "Give me free entertainment, or I will whine" hardly has the same resounding ring to it, does it?

So you think that if someone is ill or disabled they are ABOVE THE LAW?

Its sickens me that you are allowed to practice as a lawyer.
You clearly have fuck all understanding of the concept of everyone being equal under the law.
