Guitar Hero III the First Game to $1 Billion In Sales
The Opposable Thumbs blog reports that Guitar Hero III has reached a financial milestone, becoming the first individual video game to reach $1 billion in total sales. The number is even higher if you consider the rest of the franchise. In addition to helping drive the video game industry during tough economic times (much like the Wii), it's helping other industries as well: "... aside from the fact that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith had sold three times as many copies as the band's last album during their respective first weeks, musicians whose music is featured in the game has seen a rise in music sales to the tune of 15-843 percent." And CVG notes, "... two-thirds of non-musicians exposed to music games plan to start playing a real instrument in the next couple of years." Also, Rock Band creator Harmonix may be looking into a partnership with the record labels to sell music for use outside of the games.
I find it very tasteless and absolutely revolting that you continue to post on a low-id Slashdot account that you purchased on ebay, to pose as the long-time Slashdot user that you are not.

GNAA Unveils Chufter

GNAA today announced the official launch of Chufter, the web's first officially non-kosher media sharing portal. After six months of rigorous prebeta testing/DDoSing by a select committee of GNAA beta testers/packeteers, the worldwide public holiday of September 11th has been chosen to publicly list Chufter on international stock markets. Despite receiving little or no promotion since it's prebeta debut 6 months ago, Chufter exceeded all market analyst's expectations and has already become the de-facto non-kosher content provider.
CEOs Rucas and pagga explain how Chufter came about: "The initial idea for Chufter came from our personal dissatisfaction with the strict 'kosher-only' content policy of mainstream clip sharing sites such as JewTube", barks Rucas. "Deletion of perfectly acceptable 'non-kosher' content by overzealous Hasidic admins was becoming increasingly commonplace, thus alienating the millions of proud, decent, antizionist gay niggers worldwide. Their rights to freedom of expression were being suppressed by these ZOG-funded sites, but with Chufter we feel we have given these gay niggers their voice back".
In a modern world where traditional, wholesome family content such as maresex, scat, mutilation, death and jihadist propaganda are deemed non-kosher under the Orthodox Hasidic laws that most media sharing sites operate, Chufter comes as a breath of fresh air. "We are excited and proud to be the first to break this Jewish monopoly on content. We hope to set a precedent which will be followed by the other major players within the media industry", says an erect pagga.
Of course, this level of innovation wouldn't be possible without the latest bleeding edge technology. "Chufter is built on proven, scalable enterprise solutions", explains pagga. "Our primary datacenter is located within the GNAA Worldwide Headquarters in California, in contrast with most other media sharing sites which are hosted in Israel. Due to the the sheer amount of data involved, there was no other serious contender out there". Already in the works is a European mirror hosted Auschwitz, with a Tehran-based middle-eastern node in the pipeline.
After a relatively quiet summer, leading market analysts predict sharp increases in GNAA stock this fall. Since debuting on NIGDAQ this morning, shares in Chufter have already risen by 911 cents at time of going to press with no signs of slowing. In related news, industry insiders are hinting that Barack Osama is currently in discussions with Gary Niger about GNAA handling his 2008 presidential campaign. Watch this space.

I find it funny that they didn't say how MANY were actually sold; by stating a price and not an amount, it seems like they only reached a record in how expensive it was, not in record breaking sales (the proof of that being that Wii Sports beat them out for that).
So no, I'm not impressed. When it breaks sales records, I'll be impressed. Or, I would be impressed if they made a ridiculous profit per sale and managed to get away with hiking up the price of the product like mad. Not so impressed with 'look how much our expensive product made!'
Being generous, I decided to pretend that every guitar hero III sold was $87.5, and decided to see how many sales that would be. That equates to, roughly, 11,428,571 sales.
Pac-Man got 7 million sales.
Super Mario Bros. sold 40 million, roughly.
Super Mario 64? 11 million.
Wii Sports sold 30 million copies, roughly.
I could go on, as several more top that sales amount. In short, nothing groundbreaking about this. I'm sure if Super Mario Bros. cost $100 a pop, it would be permanently the biggest moneymaker in gaming history.

I have never professed to be the beta tester who originally owned this account. I have also posted numerous comments professing to my wanting a small piece of Slashdot history because I happen to love this website, along with most of the regular users here.
But my comment was not about me. It was about you being a huge douchebag for posting on a dead man's account.
