Disgruntled Son Sells Dad's Ashes On eBay

A man is selling his dad's ashes on eBay in revenge for abandoning him as a child. William Ireland is 50 now, but 44 years ago his dad left him and his mother to start a new life. William later found his father and the two started talking until his father died in 2006. After learning his father left his estate to the other woman and her son, he paid for the cremation so he could sell his dad's ashes. His eBay ad reads, "Here are the ashes of my father, Kenneth Ireland, an adulterer who left a wife, two children and just £17 in her pocket. He never paid a penny towards his kids' upbringing."

Isn't this kind of pointless? I mean, the guy is dead for fuck's sake. The only ones potentially hurt by selling this guy's ashes is his newer family. As for the deceased, it won't hurt him at all, it's like burning someone's trash and saying, "Take that, I burned something for wich you have no use, that'll show you!"

Ah well, I still can't decide wether it's pettiness, or mere stupidity that is more prevalent in the general poulation.

Historically, we either honor the dead or disparage the dead, whether it's justified or not. Sometimes it's done for "stupid" reasons, like saving face.

I.E.: The wonderful guy who did one big bad thing may get the short end of the stick, just as the deadbeat can be honored as a 'wonderful guy in his own way'.

This son may have done what he did just to heal some old wounds. It may be both petty and stupid, but people will do petty and stupid things for their emotions.

Many people believe in fairy tales and think that such thing will indeed make a difference for them...

And so it has a chance of preventing similar lifestories in the future (as I usually say, you can't really get rid of religion at this point of our civilisation - nothing works better at controlling the masses; it's just unfortunate that many intelligent people are cought in the wake)

Even I have an idea how my "funeral" would look, because while I know it won't make a difference for me then, it makes it now. That's really the mechanism in most people - "I better respect others and their wishes, only then they will respect mine".

Plus - it makes the son feel better.

They've reconciled, but dad obviously felt no guilt or remorse for abandoning his first wife and two kids - cause he left everything when he died to his new wife and son.
Kinda like the last "Fuck you, I never even liked any of you kids and your mother never could cook or fuck worth shit!".

So, having him remembered as a deadbeat and an asshole instead of as a caring father ain't such a bad revenge.

Nobody got hurt, except memory of a dead man.
Sure beats bulldozing his grave or blowing it up.

Maybe he's hoping the new family will feel obliged to buy them so he'll indirectly have a part of the heritage.
