Iran Tries To Pacify Protesters With Lord of The Rings Marathon
Iranian state television's Channel Two is playing a Lord of the Rings marathon in an attempt to keep people inside watching hobbits and not protesting in the streets. Normally, people in Tehran are treated to one or two Hollywood movies a week, but with recent events the government hopes that sitting through a nine-hour trilogy will take the fight out of most of the protesters. Perhaps this was not the best choice in films if you want your people not to believe that "even the smallest person can change the course of the future."
They oppress the people = they're evil.
They listen to the will of the people, win an election and give the people what they want = they're evil.
You can't have it both ways Western World!
It's extremely disheartening to read about governments pacifying their entire population. Whether it's here in the USA or abroad. :(

Taking a lesson from the American government it looks like. Keep giving people food and entertainment and maybe they forget how their rights are being trampled on.

After the Kremlin exited Eastern Europe, the peoples of each nation in Eastern Europe rapidly established a genuine democracy and a free market. Except for Romania (where its people killed their dictator), there was no violence.
In Iran (and many other failed states), no external force is imposing the current brutal government on the Iranians. The folks running the government are Iranian. The president is Iranian. The secret police are Iranian. The thugs who will torture and kill democracy advocates are Iranian.
If the democracy advocates attempt to establish a genuine democracy in Iran, violence will occur. Why? A large percentage of the population supports the brutal government and will kill the democracy advocates.
Let us not merely condemn the Iranian government. We must condemn Iranian culture. Its product is the authoritarian state.
We should not intervene in the current crisis in Iran. If the overwhelming majority of Iranians (like the overwhelming majority of Poles) truly support democracy, human rights, and peace with Israel, then a liberal Western democracy will arise -- without any violence. Right now, the overwhelming majority clearly oppose the creation of a liberal Western democracy. The Iranians love a brutal Islamic theocracy.
The Iranians created this horrible society. It is none of our business unless they attempt to develop nuclear weapons. We in the West are morally justified in destroying the nuclear-weapons facilities.
Note that, 40 years ago, Vietnam suffered a worse fate (than the Iranians) at the hands of the Americans. They doused large areas of Vietnam with agent orange, poisoning both the land and the people. Yet, the Vietnamese do not channel their energies into seeking revenge (by, e. g., building a nuclear bomb) against the West. Rather, the Vietnamese are diligently modernizing their society. They will reach 1st-world status long before the Iranians.
Cultures are different. Vietnamese culture and Iranian culture are different. The Iranians bear 100% of the blame for the existence of a tyrannical government in Iran. We should condemn Iranian culture and its people.

Sauron: No, Jihad is not at all violent. If there were a non-violent way to turn the entire earth into a blackened wasteland where everyone was either enslaved or a brainless ork under my direct control, of course, as a good muslim, I would choose the non-violent way.
Interviewer: You are SUCH a great and moral person. Such a victim of people's prejudice against islam, the white hobbit's hate against huge helmeted people who want to kill them. Surely such a moral creature as yourself must feel the impact of the racism against you.
Sauron: I'll say. You know, I did what the paedophile prophet ordered : I first asked them to be allowed to turn them into slaves, have my orks rape their women and children, as is my islamic duty. But of course, out of pure racism, they denied such reasonable requests. They invented some totally made up reason : they claimed I was killing some 5-year old women during the negotiations, when of course I was merely enforcing sharia. You see they refused to fuck my orks raping them and therefore deserve to be stoned.
Sauron: I merely was carrying out my religious duty. They are such intolerant islamophobes.
Interviewer: Clearly the Hobbits are evil incarnate. Racists. The international community must prevent them from interfering in your rightful affairs. After all, which such modest demands like being allowed to perform your religion on them, it is every evil idiot's right to kill and rape infidels. We must arrest this Frodo at once. And Little orc takes his sword and tries to behead the interviewer. Needless to say, he doesn't succeed. He did, however manage to sever one tendon, causing the head to hang and the reporter to scream his lungs out. He strikes again, and manages to hit the artery this time. The reporter screams, and screams and screams, slowly the sound is being interrupted more and more by the blood trickling into his lungs. But the reporter keeps screaming. The little orc strikes another time and still barely manages to inflict more damage. By now the reporter is screaming for almost a full 2 minutes, and still the little muslim hasn't succeeded in stifling his screams. He looks at his father, because even a little orc knows that this is wrong, but islam orders it, the paedophile prophet orders it. Meanwhile the last scream of the reporter is dying, drowning in the blood that is seeping out of his neck into his throat, into his lungs. When Sauron finally strikes, it is unclear whether the reporter died of beheading, drowning in his own blood, or somehow managed to take his own life.
Now as muslim laws dictate, the children of the victim have to reimburse the little orc and Sauron for the execution. Pay for any inconvenience they caused, or face execution themselves. They know, next year it will be one of their heads.
But you have to be tolerant against such ideologies, you see. The international community would never accept such blatant racism as self-defense against the genocidal muslim ideology. Of course, such tolerance is only granted to mohammedanism, and of course, the first chance muslims get, the kill any reporter or other member of "the international community" just the same. As the paedophile prophet said :
"Muslims love death more than infidels love life"
