Emergency Government Control of the Internet?
TheZid writes "A newly proposed bill would give Uncle Sam the power to disconnect private sector computers from the internet in the event of a 'cyber security emergency.' As usual, our government is trying to take away our privacy by citing security. What actually counts as a 'Cyber-Security Emergency?' Does the president now have the option of disconnecting people when they disagree with his policies? How about disconnecting bloggers that criticize his health care reform? What counts as an emergency? Can political opponents be deemed a cyber-security emergency?"
red or blue pill... actually if it helps defend their systems then let them do it. As long as they aren't disconnecting me from the internet then fine.
Step 1. Screw up the economy by spending like drunken sailors and pay their cronies billions in useless fiat currency.
Step 2. Hype the "Svine Fluuuuu" all over the news and internet as much as Y2K was hyped.
Step 3. Push through a "Svine Fluuuuu" vaccination that is actually filled with all sorts of poison additives like mercury and squalene
Step 4. Forcibly inject people with this vaccine and if they refuse either fine them a thousand bucks a day or throw them into interment camps.
Step 5. When general population "wakes up" to the fact they are being killed the elites press the big "Disconnect Internet" button.
Step 6. With millions dead they impose "martial law" on all of us in the guise of "Restoring order"
Step 7. ???
Step 8. Control the world with a monarchy lording over serfs (the regular folks who survive).
Of course this is what the tin-foil hatters will be going on about when they hear about the Internet control scheme.
Sad thing is the tinfoilers are actually starting to make sense thee days and it scares the crap out of me.

Except that's wrong, and should be overturned by any reasonable judge.
On top of that, it doesn't even really make sense to say that secession is "illegal". What does that even mean?
You make it sound like Ron Paul's doing nothing of note. The fact is that Mr. Paul has consistently tried to STOP this rollercoaster before it reached this point, warning Congress that deficit spending is eventually going to seal our doom, but he just gets ignored.

Look at the bill. A cyber security emergency is when a piece of critical infrastructure gets owned. In times like that, you need to drop that shit off the network ASAP, and figure out what happened. Right now there is no process for doing that. This bill is meant to establish that process.
Claiming that this will allow the executive branch censor dissent is just about as retarded as the death panels argument.
Bullshit. Obama seems to be able to push his health care plan along at hyper-speed but has no influence over this? Although you may be technically correct, what you are saying is like saying the board of directors of a company have no control over that company because the CEO makes the decisions. Give me a break, all these people are just as connected with each other as my hands are connected to my body. To say that Pelosi is not part of the administration is merely a technicality.

And who would tell you it had been abused? The people you agree with aren't always going to be the ones in charge. But don't worry, Emergency Powers are rarely used for nefarious purposes.

Shit, I might vote for some of these people if I thought any of them were liberals.
Frankly, both parties disgust the hell out of me, and I can't believe the absurd labels they put on themselves. They are really more like a bunch of moderate reactionary populists than anything else, on both sides of the isle.
Its all more about not offending too many people too much than about doing something right or good. We have the bud light of government. Goes down smooth and flavorless with balls to speak of.

The October Bialout Bill ignored the requirement for passing revenue bills in the House first. It failed to pass either house due to Republicans refusing to vote "aye", so they rewrote it and using some "alternate process" they introduced it in the Senate first and the House second.
I cannot figure-out how that was considered constitutional, but then the Democrats were in charge and they've never concerned themselves with that piece of paper.

I see your hint and raise you a clue: Tyranny doesn't require that you shut down the sources of free information, simply that you prevent that information from reaching the useful idiots. I'm sure you can find information on the Great Firewall of China on Wikipedia, provided of course you're not in China.
