The First Geek Wedding At a LinuxFest
At the Ohio LinuxFest yesterday, two Linux geeks were married — or had their projects merged into a single trunk, as the officiant, Lord Drachenblut, put it. The wedding of Randy Noseworthy (proprietor of the Juiced Penguin) and Janet Edmonson was announced last week and was live-tweeted by at least one attendee — here's his photo of the happy couple. There's also a video of the ceremony, at which Jon "Maddog" Hall offered a blessing via pre-recorded audio.
Update: 09/26 20:03 GMT by KD : In the comments, anyaristow notes that this wasn't the first such wedding; Rob Landly and Fade were married at Penguicon in 2007, with Steve Jackson officiating and Eric Raymond as best man.

...until she finds out that he's into triple booting.
Just wait until he forks her kernel.....
The real question is, will they release child projects under the GPL?
More than 50% of all branch merges end in conflict.

Anyone else see the quote at the bottom?
"Marry in haste and everyone starts counting the months."
While it may not be appropriate, it does seem odd.
I reckon the people that feel this way are truer geeks than people that proclaim their geekery in public like this pair.
echo -e 'global _start\n _start:\n mov eax, 2\n int 80h\n jmp _start' > a.asm; nasm a.asm -f elf; ld a.o -o a;
They don't seem to be teenagers, for sure, but that is only for better - by now they know what is important in this life and what isn't.
Gad, sometimes the slash herd are awful. Particularly anonymous cowards.
You weren't invited anyway, so it's win-win for everybody.
It was their moment. As long as it made them happy, that's great.
Nah, that headline would be too obvious.

This would have been a better choice
I just thought I would use this opportunity to wish the couple a happy marriage.
It's already been done at Penguicon. Steve Jackson officiated and Eric Raymond was best man.
There are such? I heard before but now I see for myself. Sakes alive !! It's as if marriage was a wish granted before death comes knocking his final toll ??
Before the obvious retortion, yes, R.M.S. is elderly, but he is G.O.D. so that is expected !!
I will wait for the fork. It shouldn't be more than a couple months.
Seven puppies were harmed during the making of this post.
...but Randy, how about something on the front page of juicedpenguin.com that indicates what the site is for?
Someone at LinuxFest had a girlfriend???
AC exists for EXACTLY times like this, so that people can post what they're really thinking, and not just spout platitudinous tripe to avoid seeming rude.
Those two are absolutely hideous, and you bloody well know it.
For better or for worse, if you post something on the public Internet you are inviting the public to view it, form opinions of it, and comment on it. Not all such comments will be 100% favorable. If you are fortunate, most comments will be pleasant likes the ones in this discussion but there is absolutely no guarantee that they won't be mostly unfavorable. If that is intolerable, you should reconsider posting it to the public Internet.
Sure, but why does having "a moment" automatically mean "a moment in the spotlight?" Can you see how maybe thinking this way leaves room for (or just plain invites) comments from the peanut gallery like the one you're replying to? Can't two people who love each other have a truly meaningful moment without producing a public spectacle for a bunch of strangers? Just a thought.
Where's my cookie?
Hideous or not, they're both very happy together which is more than most people seem to have these days.
If your neighbours roof is flying past your window, you know it's cyclone season.
Where is the ceremony where the the groom's friends spit on his nerd card, pour vodka on it, and set it on fire??

two Linux geeks were married
I hear all sorts of thing like countries legalizing homosexual marriages, which is jolly good by me. But what's the bloody point in legalizing asexual marriages?!
I hadn't the slightest objection to his spending his time planning massacres for the bourgeoisie... (P.G. Wodehouse)
Oh not this again... Yes, the internets are well within their rights to say the couple are ugly, or "Heil Hitler!" for that matter. People are also within their rights to tell such people to not be such jerks.
A Linux geek named Randy Noseworthy got married? That is news worthy.
Conrats to both of them!
I don't read any shock in IANAAC, just disgust and annoyance. Even when someone is used to the general assholishness of the net, it's still possible to wage a personal war on certain irritants. I for example have attacked people who believe any criticism on a work of art is an attack on the creator and them. It works on occasion as long as you're calm and polite.
Anyway, you kind of miss my point. If we shouldn't be affected by random crass comments (which are also rather cliche), then the inevitable responses shouldn't be a bother either. A short of "get over it" to the guy saying "get over it" I guess heh.
That's why so many geeks marry online.
An SQL query goes to a bar, walks up to a table and asks, "Mind if I join you?"
Given the presumed rarity of a couple of Linux users having the requisite social skills to even *make friends*, let alone marry, I'd say this qualifies as an absolutely momentous event. They probably should have had the music from 2001 accompanying the bridal march; it'd be appropriate in more ways than one. ;)
And this deserves to be on the front page of a non-idle post why?
Hey, while I admit the guy is kinda scary there ain't nothing wrong with having yourself a chubby girl. 1-they know where the good restaurants are. 2.-they not only ain't gonna bitch at you for eating a nice steak, hell they are probably good at cooking and will be happy to whip that sucker up with some home fries. No grazing or eating tofu shit with a chubby girl. 3.- they ain't on a diet, which cuts down the bitchiness by a factor of 100. Ain't nothing bitchier than a hungry woman son. 4.-they are a hell of a lot nicer to cuddle up with, and ain't gonna be bruising the hell out of you with those damned bony elbows.5.-they have an oral fetish...nuff said. Hell you tell her about steak and BJ day and she'll even mark it on her calendar!
So say what you want about the dude, but leave the chubby girls alone. The last thing we need is more skinny, diet obsessed, bitchy as hell females in this world. The chubby ones are cheaper and low maintenance (you seen how much all that diet shit costs?), glad for the attention, hell of a lot more fun to be with, and don't even bitch about your beer or greasy fries. Ain't nothing wrong with having a chubby girl son, they make life just that much easier.
ACs don't waste your time replying, your posts are never seen by me.
Nobody is expressing shock that some asshole had to insult the happy couple on the Internets. IANAAC was just putting the AC in his rightful place. Equal opportunity freedom of expression and all that.
On a related note, you must be fun at parties!
It's been a while since I don't read TOO many FUNNY comments here on slashdot.
If someone knows them please let them know they've made thousands of people happy today.
But can they run Lin... oh wait.
Yeah the ancient Greek mathematicians in invented the mathematical aesthetics were geeks, but Geeks should especially be aware that all math is context sensitive.
It's their opinions that matter to them.
Go find someone who thinks your opinion matters and have fun with them.
Computer memory is just fancy paper, CPUs just fancy pens with fancy erasers; the 'net is just a fancy backyard fence.
Ah, the old "I'm going to mistake chubby for fat, willfully ignoring that chubby actually DOES fall between skin-and bones and fat, so there's absolutely no reason for me to be posting" trick. Good one!

Those two are hideous and their gimmick wedding sickens me.
It wasn't meant to be a Gimmick. It WAS meant to be fun, and to do something be with some of our friends. - As with many things. Reality gets blown out of proportion. Assumptions are made, and the Trolls will be Trolls. I had the un-expected pleasure to have two of Linux's most respected men included in my wedding. Jon MadDog Hall http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Hall_(programmer) AND Doug McIllroy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_McIlroy A Gimmick, No. Fun, Yes. Geek Cred? Who Cares? If you're sickened, would you care for a trash bag?

True; it was, however, the first such event at the Ohio LinuxFest. I missed the actual wedding, but at the End after Douglas McIlroy's closing keynote address, one of the organizers (I think it was Beth Eicher; I was sitting a little too far back to see) told everyone and cheers went up.
It was fun.
As gay marriage becomes more and more prevalent expect to see this trend continue.
Because as every Linux geek knows "LinuxFest" is a synonym for "SausageFest".
