Blogger Loses Unemployment Check Because of Ads

Techdirt is reporting that one unfortunate, unemployed New York lawyer recently had her unemployment benefits greatly reduced because of the incredible $1/day she was earning via ads on her blog. "The whole thing sounds like a bureaucratic nightmare, with NY State asking her to get a form from her new 'employer' who didn't exist. Then NY Department of Labor started giving her all sorts of contradicting information, and eventually an 'investigation' into her 'business' — during which time her unemployment benefits were stopped entirely. She's now pulled the Google AdSense from her blog (total earned over the life of the blog $238.75)."

is $1/day unemployed? In some parts of the world you can actually make due with that.

I think he just has a really crappy job and should quit.

She's a woman and she's not Jewish. If I'm getting a New York lawyer, he'd better either be a man or cute enough to sway court opinion. And in New York, the Jews are the way to go.

    AC obviously.

So I'm certain if anyone dared stand up to try and get a better safety net for the unemployed, the teabirthers would be out screaming about government take overs.

Boy, for someone who sounded so smart and intelligent, you sure took a nose dive once you decide to fly over the political waters.

"TeaBirthers" Huh? Yes, I had to look it up, because such a term only flies on the political left extremist blogs and a condescending name for those who attend the 'Tea Parties' as an ad hominem style attack on said people, you should have said "Tea Bagger" instead, I already know that slur. But don't worry. You're the "party of tolerance" right? Nice tolerance you got there buddy.

Too bad your good points where lost by your political brainwashed injected rant, as the people who attend the Tea Parties are also the people who would agree with your unemployment points. You've demonstrated that you're a fairly intelligent person capable of analyzing a situation, now if only you'd get your head out of your political parties ass and start caring about issues not your political parties position of hating the other team and propagating slurs on said people, you could drop this "hate" and start contributing to the cleaning up of the political civility.

And for the record, the problem you didn't mention was "how long". How long should people stay on the Dole? Indefinitely is not an answer. Every bird has to be pushed out of the nest. Every cord needs to be cut. The problem the people you describe might have with Unemployment reform would be the fact that this question is not answered. As some political ideals are to keep people on the Dole as long as possible to make them use it as a political tool to garner votes. That's right. Most politicians want to use it to get re-elected, because that's their job. Politicians are in the line of work of being re-elected. The idea of actually serving the public has not been priority for a long time. Third to being relected and pushing party policies, regardless if their people like it (unless it will make them loose an election, then their allowed to vote against the party, see Cap and Trade and Health Care reform bills, if you need examples).

Back in 2000 I was denied unemployment benefits because I made the mistake of telling the interviewer I had tried to get some contract positions.

I'm currently unemployed and someone just told me that I would still qualify for unemployment if I worked at Walmart because they pay so much less than what I made at my previous job.

    Man, I'm glad I didn't take that person's advice.
