Google Investigating Chinese Employees

BluePeppers writes "The Guardian is reporting that Google China is investigating its staff about The Incident. '"We're not commenting on rumor and speculation. This is an ongoing investigation and we simply cannot comment on the details," a Google spokeswoman said. Security analysts told Reuters the malicious software or malware used in the attack was a modification of a trojan called Hydraq. A trojan is a hidden program allowing unauthorized access to a computer. The analysts said the sophistication in the attack was in knowing whom to attack, not the malware itself.'"

    They were accessing mail, right?

    I didn't know they could go back in time and undo the incident. Very impressive!

    It must have worked. Apparently something so significant happened that people can just call it "The Incident" and expect others to know about it. Yet I've never heard of anything happening to Google, or originating from Google significant enough and shocking enough to be titled "The Incident". (The worst I've heard is about their camera cars going up the occasional private road). Their temporal cleanup crews must be pretty good.

    ...Although, if they had done a thorough job, there wouldn't be this Slashdot story, would there?

    I'm leaving the "Post Anonymously" box unchecked deliberately here, so when I say this, pay attention;

    I don't have a problem with Google extending their business out to the Chinese, ${DIETY} knows we have tons of American corporations outright outsourcing everything they can over there. However, one thing I take offense to is this notion of "investigating" the matter.

    FIRE. THEM.

    Seriously, Google, there's an estimated 1.3 billion Chinese over there. Even if half of a percent of the population is qualified to fill your cubicles, that means there's over 500,000 candidates. Half that, and you could staff Microsoft. Realistically, I'd bet they only need something like 5,0000 employees, so this really can't be *that* hard.

    What's that? Not enough qualified technical people over there in the PRC? Well, heck, what's the Chinese version of an H1-B? Let's just import some employees from the States or something! Give 'em a dose of their own medicine!

    While we're at it, use this opportunity to send a message to everyone in China that thinks is cool to f*ck with you; Kill. Every. PRC Employee. Bonus points if the PRC government gives you a "Best Place to Work in the Country!" award for the effort. After all, the Chinese human rights movement hasn't exactly turned out to be the fad everyone was hoping for, and I'm pretty sure the penalty for uttering anything remotely negative about the People's Republic of China is an immediate curb-stomping. So this amounts to a win-win (rounded off, of course).

    P.S: To the 60-something grammar nazis that pointed out the incorrect usage of "in lieu". Congratulations, you managed to briefly turn another article on something remotely interesting into yet another debate about the English language, and it's proper use thereof. Next time I Mod, I'm torching the every post that attempts to be elitist via such corrections.
