Tremulous Switching To Xbox Live, Exclusively
An anonymous reader writes "Darklegion Development and Microsoft have apparently been working on a new version of Tremulous for the Xbox 360. Timbor, project founder and a main developer of Tremulous, said this in a recent announcement: 'What does this mean for you? You will now be able to play Tremulous on Xbox Live with thousands of other gamers, earning achievements and showing off your gaming skill. In the best interest of maintaining a steady and secure Tremulous playerbase, Tremulous is going to be exclusively available for Xbox Live. Existing infrastructure will no longer receive official support. Players who have already been playing for at least three months can apply for a €5/$7 coupon as a show of our appreciation of your enthusiasm so far! What does this mean for the community? Hopefully nothing! While the production of Tremulous switches from its current open source development to a closed source environment handled by the very capable and experienced Microsoft engineers, the efforts of the community will still be valued. In this collaboration we have made it very clear that the Tremulous community is very important to the game, and Microsoft agrees with us on this point. We are confident that this move will not stifle the creative output of the community.'"
Tremulous is one of those games that should be cool by all aspects: setting, look, features, etc. They're all awesome. But the game just lacks a fun factor for some reason.
I'd be for this, even if it was real, as long as it made the game fun.
All I ever wanted was a spoon.
Possibly an April fools?
This April's fools shit is really getting tedious. I'm really sick of it.
Is Miguel de Icaza involved with this project?
I've abandoned my search for truth; now I'm just looking for some useful delusions.
Most gamers are switching to PSN, where there are no subscription costs, better exclusives and less jerks.
And no indie games. Nintendo requires a stable business with a dedicated office and prior commercial titles; I haven't read anything stating otherwise for Sony. So if a team of developers that work from home want their game on a console, the only way is through Microsoft's XNA environment, and if this were real, I'd bet XNA is why the developers would have chosen Xbox 360. In fact, one of the drawbacks of XNA can be turned into a positive: it forces a rewrite that solves the issue of copyright on a forked work.
God this shit is incredibly boring. They really should randomize the day of the year that April Fools lands on and not tell anyone. Yes, I mean exactly what I just said.
Guess I'll have to actually work as all you see on news or social sites is god damn zany shit. Seriously, it's like St. Patrick's day. Does anyone seriously think it's fun to run around and pinch each other over green clothing? How about we leave that "fun" to the 9 year olds, eh?
Come on at least try to fool us a little. Now if you had said the Nintendo DS.......

Flash crashed in Chrome, no less. Oh, the ...
FYI... I just grabbed a random link. No idea what will happen if you follow that.
I just don't get... eh, ugh... never mind. This post wasn't worth the research I put into it.
A bit obvious. Anyone who knows the contents of the GPL can see right through this. Additionally, "very capable and experienced Microsoft engineers"? Give me a break.
... types up an angry rant about how the XBOX is destroying all of my favorite games like Deus Ex, Thief, and now this....
then realizes what day it is...
Unfortunately, the joke is on the Tremulous developers for thinking anyone cares about their project...
Is this an AF prank?
I can't imagine an open source project so openly collaborating with Microsoft here...
I find it fun, and very addictive. Have you played it long enough to start getting good at it? There's something satisfying about sneaking up sneaking up on some poor human from behind and dretching the back of their head. Or successfully pouncing a human with a goon. Sniping their armory or telenodes as an ad goon. Absorbing a full luci hit as a rant and then taking the human out, along with the thousand odd credits it took to get to that stage. Leveling to stage 2 as a human and pulsing dretches. Finding the alien base empty, sawing every egg in the alien base, and finally their overmind. Taking the time to position each build point in either race so that you maximize the time the base can survive before being overwhelmed by the enemy. Spamming eggs on transit so as to avoid a human win. I love the teamwork aspect to the game.
There is a steep learning curve to the game though, some things require a lot of practice (e.g. goon pounce), require a bit of setup (e.g. assigning keys), or maybe even a knack (e.g. basilisk skills). Keeping your kill/death ratio low is also key, but hard, since most everyone but noobs avoids death like the plague.
If I have seen further it is by stealing the Intellectual Property of giants.
God damn it.

From their site:
Dear Tremulous Community,
This is the second time in such a short amount of time that we have a monumentous announcement to make. The overwhelming concern of the Tremulous players has been staggering, we never dreamed that our fans were so loyal to our cause. It brings a tear to my eye remembering the thousands of e-mails we received from players around the world, expressing concern over the future of their beloved game.
We, Darklegion Development, have decided to break off the partnership with Microsoft and continue to pursue our own interests in the direction of Tremulous. It may not be the financially best choice to make in these troubling times, but this is a decision reached with our hearts not with our wallets.
Once again, we are extremely grateful for your trust in open source and Tremulous; we highly value each and every one of our loyal fans!
