    There's now the Game Play Preview release, which is basically a beta version of the game-play changes that will be in the next version.
    It's a lot more fun, there have been lots of changes around reducing camping and stalemates, so it's well worth taking a look.

    If you want to get pedantic, light is digital, the CCD counts photons, and there aren't even that many with high shutter speeds etc.

    I have no idea what netconfig is meant to do, but it doesn't exist on my computer. /etc/resolv.conf is the standard way of doing it.

    Not true.
    You pay to receive TV signals. Your payments cover public service broadcasts and other such things which is outsourced to the BBC. If you fail to watch it that's your loss, but the laws say that they must be there. If its not a TV licence then it would be a tax. I'm glad I don't have to pay for your TV usage.

    The guy who built the car doesn't though. Maybe the guy who built the road would be better.

    And ISP's don't profit off piracy. Bandwidth costs a lot of money. A lot more than you pay them for it.
    If they could filter illegal stuff without opening themselves to lawsuits then they would.

    Sounds like you go to a stupid university.
    I have never had anyone tell me to go to facebook, which is good, as I don't have a facebook account.
    That and at my university every gets given a short email account, so we just use them, if necessary.
    (And people do check the emails, as the university send out lots of important info via it.)

    Yes, it sure looked like cogent from here (UK).
    Connections to the US were being very sporadic, and traceroute showed more than 500ms being added by just one cogent router.

    Its sort of worrying how a single cable can cause so many problems. Isn't the net meant to route around such issues?

    Yeah, Its not like they knew they were breaking the rules or anything.
    Totally not there fault if they push it too far and force the BBFC to finally act.

    I think I'll set up a shop to sell drugs, and then sue the government for outlawing my business...

    So you're sitting in a cafe somewhere, using there wireless, on your work laptop.
    Its a work laptop with all kinds of useful tools on it, and the cafe has an unsecured network.
    At the click of a few buttons you could sniff every packet, you're not, but you could.
    Some moron comes over, sees the wireshark icon of your desktop, or worse you're going over logs from an old capture, and before your know it your in jail.

    That or the law will get scrapped the first time its tested in court.

    Or it'll be scrapped when all big business who do any kind of network operations there leave the country.

    Wouldn't it be cool if google switched the google.de page out for 'sorry but our german datacenters are down due to us being unable to secure them. we'll have the page back in a few weeks once we beef up the centres in nearby countries.'

    Could it be that this is just another attempt at killing p2p? The using trackers as lists of IP's that probably wont be patched sounds like a much better plan.
