The Bomb Squad Olympiad Starts Today

The bomb suit relay and the robot obstacle course are just two of the events you can enjoy at the Bomb Squad Olympiad. Over the next three days squads from across South Carolina will compete and showcase their bomb defusing capabilities for the public. I hear the deep fried dynamite is especially good.

    Robots? ROBOTS!?!?

They have a radio-controlled platform with manually controlled servos. How is THAT a robot? It does absolutely NOTHING autonomously (except rust).

Ever since those "robot wars" shows in the 90's, people seem to have taken to calling any glorified RC car a "robot." I remember when a robot had to be autonomous (or at least semi-autonomous) to be consider a "robot" as opposed to "remote-controlled mobile servo device." Hell, we had remote-controlled toys like this when I was a kid, and no one considered them robots.

Okay, sure, it's an event limited to South Carolina, and it's a yearly event, not every 4 years. I can live with that. But the Olympiad is the time between the games, you hillbillies.
