The Bomb Squad Olympiad Starts Today
The bomb suit relay and the robot obstacle course are just two of the events you can enjoy at the Bomb Squad Olympiad. Over the next three days squads from across South Carolina will compete and showcase their bomb defusing capabilities for the public. I hear the deep fried dynamite is especially good.
"With the current emphasis on security demand for bomb disposal expertise is booming."
"This event is no flash-in-the-pan"
"We've had an explosive reaction"
This is a substitute for a clever sig that fits within the maximum number of characters.

Don't believe it-- it will give you a headache.

Who else is reminded of this by the description of the "Hook and Line" contest?
Putting moderation advice in your
Robots? ROBOTS!?!?
They have a radio-controlled platform with manually controlled servos. How is THAT a robot? It does absolutely NOTHING autonomously (except rust).

Okay, sure, it's an event limited to South Carolina, and it's a yearly event, not every 4 years. I can live with that. But the Olympiad is the time between the games, you hillbillies.
Fandroids hate facts.
Because they'd be sued into dust if they dared use the word "Olympics"?
PS your bigotry is showing.
Shutting down free speech with violence isn't fighting fascism. It IS fascism!
In other news, the accepted use of words can change over the span of 2,700 years. I suppose those hillbillies must also be running all the Math Olympiads and Science Olympiads all over the world?
No, no, I agree with the GP. I live in South Carolina, and there are plenty of hillbillies here.

It may be in South Carolina now, but I believe it originated in Atlanta.
What? Too soon?

And here I thought you were talking about the Commonwealth Games!
Although I'm sure that the Delhi bomb squad folks are having some sleepless nights, they probably won't win any medals.
The opportunities just defy belief...
- It's in South Carolina (A redneck's last words? "Hey, y'all...watch this!")
- It involves explosives (ibid.)
- It's being held at a HIGH SCHOOL, for God's sake. What about a high school is the best place to hold EOD activities, even simulated ones?
For your security, this post has been encrypted with ROT-13, twice.

So? Don't. Does World Games, err, Championship not sound big enough for some local excuse to get drunk?
So is yours.

What could possibly go wrong?
GAAH! MY PRINTER IS ON FIRE!!! PUT IT OUT! PUT IT OUT!
The cynical amongst us might think this sort of thing just reinforces the idea that "Terrorists are among us!" and we should give lots of tax and civil liberties to the government to "protect" us.. But that's just cynicism, right?
Tell that to NBC when they broadcast the "Olympiad" every four years (and promote ad nauseum)
NBC seems to be pretty sure they broadcast the "Olympics", the "Olympic Games", or the "Games of the nth Olympiad". Which is the same thing by slightly different names, and not the Olympiad. But please do enlighten us.

Fun factoid: the "Science Olympiad" originated in North Carolina. Another one: the meaning changed to wrong for the first couple of Olympic games, but then turned back to right again.
