Bruce Campbell Confirms New Evil Dead Movie

blackstone2020 writes "Dread Central reported last night that a fourth Evil Dead film is up for production in Detroit, and editor Bob Murawski, who worked with Sam Raimi on all three 'Spider-Man' films and 'Drag Me to Hell,' is gearing up to start on the project. Bruce Campbell recently joined Twitter and left one of the best comments to a fan confirming this rumor 'Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.'"

The only other star it would need would be Cary Elwes, and it's next summer's blockbuster.

It's even worse when they take cult horror classics and replace the goodness with Jar Jar Binks style CGI.

Army of Darkness was the perfect end to the trilogy (sorry Sam, but the studio was right--that S-Mart ending was fucking awesome).
Please don't ruin it with some lame retread with a tired, old Ash. Just let it be what it is.

  I just saw him in burn notice and he lost a lot of weight. So much so that the other characters commented on it during the show.

  Yeah he looks better this season. Thing is though, that they had a "special" 2 hr episode of Sam Ax when he was a SEAL. The time line was about 10 years prior to Burn Notice. He didn't seem to have lost the weight before the show. Which makes him a bit less believable as a SEAL. Michael just grew a beard!

  Netflix does not have the dvd for that so I have not seen it. I watched the new episodes on hulu. I had wondered if he lost the weight for that though.

  He could pull if off, if he goes for an older, wiser, and even ruthlesser personae. If he tries to do young Ash, it will just be like that Duke Nukem game - a sad rehash.

  Army was comical but it stunk to high heaven and it's connection with the first two films.

  A while back I had the idea that a sequel with Campbell would be pretty cool if they did it as him being "happy, married, etc." in a middle-class neighborhood and having the undead come to our Earth. You'd have a lot of opportunity for more complex satirical humour.
  I doubt they'll do that, but it'd be fucking awesome.

  No, Raimi just reluctantly finally conceded that the franchise played a lot better for laughs than horror. The first film was played straight, and it was so awful that people laughed at it. In the second film, Raimi put in some intentional humor--and people only remembered and talked about the funny parts.
  By the third film, he finally had to admit that he sucked ass as a horror director, and went with the humor. His last stand on that front came went he fought the studio on the ending. Raimi wanted an ending that was just a crappy rehash of the Evil Dead 2 ending. The studio told him to go back and shoot a comical ending that was more consistent with the rest of the movie, and so he created that great S-Mart ending. I often cite that as one of the rare cases where studio interference over the director actually made a movie BETTER. He still bitches about it on the commentary track, too stupid (or stubborn) to realize that the S-Mart ending was probably the best part of the movie.

I can see why people liked the Spiderman movies (even though I didn't so much). But Drag Me to Hell wasn't scary, funny, original, or interesting. It was a "Tales from the Darkside" episode, but much longer, and without the low-budget charm. I have no interest in a Sam Raimi horror movie after that.

  It has been awhile since I watched the original 3, but isn't Evil Dead 2 basically a remake of Evil Dead? The original Evil Dead creeps me out to this day.

  The first ~7 minutes of Evil Dead 2 are a "recap" of the first movie, but with only Ash and Linda. Everything else takes place after the events of the first movie.

  So, let me see.
  Evil Dead was the original
  Evil Dead II was apparently a remake of Evil Dead.
  Army of Darkness.
  Evil Dead Remake (coming i guess).
  So, out of 4 movies, there is only 2 actually movies, if you don't count the remakes.
  Sometimes, you just got to leave the past alone, and go on with the new. But hey, cash in on the Evil Dead name, since i'll download it off tpb anyways.

  Sorry, wrong. As it was pointed out above, Evil Dead II had a 7 minute rehash of the first Evil Dead movie. The rest of Evil Dead II was its own deal. Also if you fail to watch Evil Dead I, then II, then AoD, you will miss out on the progression of the movies as well as some pretty good laughs and connections between the 3.
  The question that I have not seen up to this point (haven't read below this comment yet), is whether or not the movie will be made with comedy in mind or as a campy serious version much like the original?

Actually no. He is a lead on Burn Notice, a show about a burned spy on the USA Network. Does a great job imo too.

.... at least by my friend's tastes, as they didn't give me shit about getting them watch it ... which I get occassionally, but they were complaining for years, and brought it up whenever I'd select a movie to watch.
... and even by my tastes, My Name is Bruce was the better of the two movies, especially with the self-deprecating humor:

Clayton: I kinda liked Bubba Ho-Tep.

I wonder if it will have a scene with undead flying monkeys coming out of Bruce Campbell's ass? For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, years ago, he did an interview where the commentator asked him if he'd do another Evil Dead movie and his response was "when winged monkeys fly out of my ass". With anyone else, I would not even ponder the possibility of that scene being in the movie. But, hey, we're talking Campbell and Raimi here.
