The Worst Job At Google: a Year of Watching Terrible Things On the Internet

Cutting_Crew writes "Gizmodo has called attention to a story that describes the worst job you can get at Google: wading through and blocking objectionable content, which includes watching decapitations and beastiality. A ex-Google-employee who did just that tells his own story of a year-long stint of looking at the most horrible things on the internet. In the end, he needed therapy, and since he was a contractor, he was let go instead of being hired as a full time employee."

This guy gets paid to do what 4chaners happily do for free and he complains about needing therapy. .. On the other hand, I smell a crowd source opportunity.

People who complain about having a job in a shit economy, maybe they should be replaced so others can work at Google.
If you can't handle seeing terrible things on the internet, don't work for an internet company or search engine like Google.

The sense of entitlement amazes me.

I'd fap to all of them, as long as the victims were human, female (males, meh, wouldn't affect me either way... unless they were polititians, bankers or known intellectual property trolls... I wouldn't fap to that, but for some reason I'm sure I'd feel some satisfaction from their pain and anguish, even though I don't believe in "an eye for an eye"), prefferably sexy, over, say, 12-15 years old (younger ones are too much like non-sapient animals for me to be comfortable with their pain, they may not have done enough to deserve it yet, although they probably have), not close relatives or friends of mine and prefferably volunteers.
However, I'd need a lot of counseling if the victims were cats, and probably dogs or other animals not usually used as food in my cultural frame of refference, possibly including insects (not horses, though, those shitbags deserve anything bad that happens to them).
Frankly, most human beings deserve anything horrible that happens to them (not as much as horses, though), we're just a bunch of evil, self centered perverted motherfuckers. Cats are, too, but the bastards are cute and fluffy (or smooth and warm in the case of sphynxes) and can purr and probably secrete some kind of pheromone or emit some kind of infrasound or some other form of mind control that forces us to like them, so I can't even bear the thought of them being hurt, much less watch it.
Sadly I have yet to find a site with this kind of content, and my moral code (basically "treat others as you'd want them to treat you") and survival instincts prevent me from making my own entertainment in this regard. If only people who want to commit suicide would volunteer to be filmed performing some of these... but we live in a world of twisted morals, and whoever filmed those volunteers would end up prosecuted and possibly killed, to much contradictory cheering of the crowd.

If looking at kiddie-porn, or beheading, or whatever gory pics can made someone so f*cked up that he has to get a therapy I'll say that this guy is already f*cked up _before_ he got the job

I do not like those gory pictures but I ain't gonna be affected by them, those are only pics and vids - In real life I had a lot worse experience

Anyone who has been through war, and experiencing up close all the savagery stuffs that war brings, know what I am talking about

I do not forget - how can anyone forget such experience?

But I do have a whole life in front of me and I am determined to not letting my life being led by those gory memories

Just leave them behind, stuffed the memory in some backrooms inside the brain, and get on with life

The Jewish Holocaust survivors had done that

The Vietnamese war victims had done that

    How come the Americans can't?

How come they have to "seek therapy" and letting their lives be ruined by bad experiences?

For crying out loud, this guy who previously worked in Google only get to watch the gory thing - he was spared the other senses, like smell the blood, like feel the scorching heat from an explosion, like having the guy next to you losing almost half his torso in an explosion and still living and screaming - many of us had lived through that, and our lives ain't as f*cked as that guy

All I can say is that the ex-Google guy is nothing but another new-age whiner - wasting time whining about how his life was altered because of watching gory vids and pics

They can "torn" how ever many new ones but the basic tenet of LIFE is to get on living

Wallowing on what had happened in the past is NOT living, at least, not living to the full

There's one even telling me I do not know anything about psychology - What I'm interested to know how much psychology that guy knows?

What's the point of having double, or triple, or quadruple dose of so-called "psychology" if one can't even get on with one's life?

What is the most important aspect of life is what we ARE doing right now

We can only plan for the future

As for the past - other than the lessons that I've learnt - I let the past be the past

Crying over spilled milk ain't gonna get any of the spilled milk back

Wallowing over the past over and over again ain't gonna change the past

      What had happened, had happened

Having sessions upon sessions of therapy ain't gonna turn back the clock

Time goes on, life goes on, and the most important is -
Are we prepared to tackle the challenges of tomorrow?

      PTSD is a Western invention

The Vietnamese who were victimized in the Vietnam war didn't have to go through the de-PTSD regime of therapy and still doing ok

On the other hand, those American veterans who fought Vietnam war came back "damaged", suffering from - as the psychologist have claimed - PTSD

So the vets had to go through uncounted sessions of PTSD therapy and then ? They still suffer PTSD, waking up cold sweat at night, floored immediately whenever a car nearby has a tire punctured, and so on

The Jews who had survived holocaust, how many of them had PTSD ?

Many of the holocaust survivor not only didn't suffer from PTSD, they went on to do great stuffs in their chosen field, be it Science, Art or even become great warriors

The creation of the state of Israel was aided by many people who survived holocaust

Instead of going into their own cocoon, the Jews got on to greatness because in the Jewish culture, stuffs like PTSD only indicates weakness, and weakness is looked down upon
