Want to Change the Slashdot Logo? For 1 Day in October, You Can
The Slashdot logo has been around for a long time now; the truth is, we're rather fond of it, and have only rarely introduced substantial changes. But for the month of October, as a way of celebrating the site's 15 years of delivering News for Nerds, we invite you to help us temporarily change it. If you have an idea of what the Slashdot logo should look like for one day in October, this is your chance to see it on the page. Starting September 15th, we'll be accepting entries, and sending limited edition anniversary T-shirts to the artists we pick to show off on the page throughout the month. (And a Nexus 7 tablet to the artist who ranks best in show.) Click through for information on what we're looking for, how to enter, and the long list of rules that the legal department has provided for your reading pleasure; we look forward to seeing and sharing your ideas.
What else is there?
I'm still bitter that the constant Firefox updates broke the add-in that made that layout permanent.
Be the same old logo
And I don't see anything that would prohibit a Goatse.cx inspired logo. I can see the hands wrapping around the "o" in Slashdot now.
How about a logo with Fonzie waterski-jumping over Slashdot while wearing a leather jacket.
"Here Lies Philip J. Fry, named for his uncle, to carry on his spirit"
And see if I can get a dupe Slashdot logo through.
Are there a lot of people out there who have just been chomping at the bit to change the slashdot logo?
How about fixing some of the horribly out of date and broken website code instead? Just for one day. In October!
Maybe make a mobile version of the site that is more than barely functional? For one day! In October!
Shameful.

This is why I'm never going to participate to something like that.
The question is tantamout to:
Wanna do graphic design work for peanuts?
I suspect a few graphic design students might take you up on it, and do well. Any pro will just be offended. Any real amateur will probably fail. It'll be fun to submit a penis or something just for grins and giggles.
This is really lame, even for Slashdot actually. I suggest we "penis bomb" the submissions. Send in doodles of a penis, in whatever fashion you please.
Natalie Portman.
Covered in, well, nothing.
Faster! Faster! Faster would be better!

Live today, because you never know what tomorrow brings
not really. It comes from joking about the pile of strange characters that are part of web URLs:
h-t-t-p-colon-slash-slash-[x]-dot-org
Where [x] is the website name. Adding "slashdot" there makes an even bigger mouthful.
"Here Lies Philip J. Fry, named for his uncle, to carry on his spirit"
Sorry, but not from me. The powers that run Slashdot probably have good intentions, but more often that not, these design contest are really just cheap ways to get work for nothing (or relatively little). Considering graphic artists are already chronically underappreciated and underpaid by clients, this really isn't fair.
But hey, don't let me discourage any of you aspiring artists out there ...;)
