Saints Row IV Announced
jones_supa writes "The cartoon heroes are back, with even stronger superpowers. Deep Silver Volition has announced Saints Row IV for an August launch. From the press release: 'In the next open-world installment of Saints Row, Deep Silver Volition continues the story of the Third Street Saints by elevating their status to the highest level – the leaders of the free world. In Saints Row IV, the head honcho of the Saints has been elected to the Presidency of the United States. Saints Row IV lets players delve into an arsenal of alien weaponry and technology that will turn each Saint into an ultimate entity of destruction. The player utilizes out-of-this-world superpowers to fight all the way to the top. With intensified action and enhanced customization, the protagonists can use their newfound superpowers and leap over buildings, outrun the fastest sports cars, or send enemies flying with telekinesis in the most insane installment of Saints Row yet.'"
Trailblazing, Mayhem, and every other part of the game that gamers considered to be fun in the previous installments have been removed and will be sold separately as add-ons at a later date.
At least if they continue the trend of every Saint's Row so far.
If they continue beyond that, saints row V will require you to buy each bullet and telekinetic power individually as DLC.
2 and Third were great. Insurance Fraud is probably the best minigame activity in the series. And nothing beats the gang war against a bunch of furries in Third.
There were times I had to pause the game until my eyes cleared I was laughing so hard.
In a world of the blind, the one-eyed man is king--and the two-eyed man is a heretic.
you mean the worst GTA3 style ripoffs made?
I wrote this shit in 94
So they aren't ripping off GTA anymore, and moving on to ripping off Prototype and Infamous instead?
Well, I've heard 3 was quite good as a means of delivering absurdity. I never played it because my personal predilection is for more intellectual games that reward planning and forethought than the more action oriented games.
I agree with you, though that corporate games that are big sequels to big games tend to have less cleverness as numbers go up, and don't really necessarily deserve articles. On the other hand, if you try to pick niche things to have articles on, you run into the problem of a lack of notability, and lacking particular interest from the readers here.
..haters gonna hate. "You do crime in 3rd person in a city.. OMG GTA RIPOFF". The only games that have been ripping off GTA... are GTA sequels. SR2 and SR3 are both better than any GTA game ever made, except the first, which of course I still own for PC. Sadly I no longer have a 3dfx/glide card to enjoy it with.
I picked up Saints Row 3 on a whim when it was something like $10 for the game and all its DLC on Steam. Before that I'd known little of the series and the advertising/reviews hadn't really been compelling enough for me to try it out.
As if ripped from the brain of an acid-tripping Mark Millar, SR3's balls to the wall ridiculousness somehow works, and co-op support takes it to a whole other level. I'm hooked. Give me more.
You just don't understand the joy that comes with beating down crowds of furries with a giant purple dildo.
It's not as much a clone as it is similar at this point. GTA has become more realistic, and SR is just over the top craziness.
I know how to make it "news for nerds" and simultaneously make it something a little different than just ANOTHER game sequel, with copy/paste gameplay.
Make it GTA, but in the future! Yes yes, I remember that's what GTA2 was, but a modern GTA-type game that takes place in a sci-fi, future city would be *awesome*. Flying cars, robot cops, side missions on a moon base (which would take mere seconds to reach, a-la Futurama), etc. etc.
Hell--this lead to an even better idea: A Futurama GTA game where you play as Bender!
The Internet King? I wonder if he could provide faster nudity.
Sweet, I hope I can play it over OnLive. I played sr3 there, and it was a blast. I think that rumors of OnLive's demise are premature!
I've always wanted a GTA style Cowboy Beebop game.
...my personal predilection is for more intellectual games that reward planning and forethought than the more action oriented games...
So, you like games that are more like a second job than a fun escape. I'd rather die in a fire.
Looks like the same game engine as #3, making this more like DLC then a new game...
"Have you ever thought about just turning off the TV, sitting down with your kids, and hitting them?"
I wish GTA would stop being so serious, but I suppose that's why SR exists. Now adding more crazy to the mix I'm all for it. I just feel like this looks way too much like 3 and will feel like a simple DLC rather than a full blown new game. Adding super powers doesn't really change the game enough to slap a 4 on it, it could work as a regular DLC.
It's unfortunate that some people like 2 over 3 simply because the story was better. Gameplay in 3 is so much superior on every level that I don't care about the story being ruined, story is the least of my concerns when picking a video GAME.
Not being able to play the game is a deal-breaker for me.
Do you even lift?
These aren't the 'roids you're looking for.
I was just talking about this today, when I saw this: http://documents.latimes.com/la-2013/
top craziness.
A better expression would be "retarded".
All Saints Row games were more or less retarded and full of idiotic bugs. The only thing that I partly appreciated was character customization, and that took me close to 10 minutes of fun, then it became "meh". Sleeping Dogs, on the other hand, was awesome.
...gis sdrawkcab (usually not responding to ACs; don't bother posting as AC)
I looked at that, and I don't think we are quite there yet. We do have smart cars, but not that kind.
Couldn't of said it better...
SR3 -> Brains left behind :)
"Press releases for nerds" would be a more accurate tagline as of late.
There's no -1 for "I don't get it."
Subjective.
The minute I heard "So you're robbing a bank as yourselves? Ultra-Postmodernism. I love it." I was smiling. Sure, there was stuff that was immature and usually I hate that, but there were so many moments where I was just having pure fun that I don't even care. So many moments of "wait, did that really just happen?" Been thinking of picking up Sleeping Dogs though. I like serious games too.
AAAAAAAAAaand, you suck! Don't talk in public anymore.
Saints Row IV is Announced, if you run this across Google Translator it translate to Cash Cow is getting Milked.
.... but does it run (on) Linux?
I completed Saints Row 2 and 3 and never saw any bugs. I've never seen anyone else complain on a forum about the games being buggy, only stupid.
Leaping over buildings, cars with unwieldy speed? Anyone remember Crackdown?
2 words. Suh weet. Saints Row is more fun than GTA nowdays, and that's saying a lot.
Actually, I do. It's how I met my partner, in fact.
Yes, god forbid we have both types of games. Mindless action drivel AND so-called second jobs. Nope, casual, anti-intellectual trash like you has ruined computer gaming by making every developer race to the bottom in order to "cash-in" on the ""casual"" gaming dollar. MMORPGs especially have now devolved into mindless, ADHD, epeen, ez-mode arenas where maximum character development must take no more than two-weeks. GTFO.
What an interesting view. I find the mindless action games that don't require planning and forethought are more like a job, because when I'm doing a job I sometimes have tasks where I don't engage my mind as much as I'd like, and when I'm not doing a job I get to avoid those things.
It's not that my job doesn't have planning and forethought -- it does, a lot, that's why I went for that job -- it's that I can almost never get enough of that. So I guess what we have in common is that we're avoiding the things we don't like from a job, but completely opposite on what it is that is like a job that we're avoiding.
I try not to judge people holding the GP's position. I have never in my life understood people who wish to "turn their brain off" to enjoy something. It's an utterly baffling premise to me. But it's a common position, and I hold no need to judge people over something so trivial.
However, being judged in turn seems to be normal(probably confirmation bias on my part). Daring to enjoy something mentally intricate seems to really grate on some people. I don't know why.
