Lowell Observatory Pushes To Name an Asteroid "Trayvon"
Flash Modin writes "The observatory where Pluto was discovered is pushing to name an asteroid after a black teenager killed in a controversial confrontation in Florida last year. William Lowell Putnam III says his family has identified with the cause of African American rights, and thus an asteroid named after Trayvon Martin is perfectly appropriate. Putnam is the sole trustee of the observatory, which was founded by Percival Lowell during his search for canals on Mars. Astronomers at the observatory discovered the asteroid in 2000, but it has not been formally named. Putnam has already asked the Minor Planet Center once to designate the asteroid 'Trayvon,' but they told him the designation was 'premature.' Now that there's been a verdict, the observatory is reapplying in hopes the naming body will see things different."

When an unarmed black kid is being stalked by someone like you they are just supposed to say yes sir massa sir or you feel entitled to kill them for not knowing their place. I hope that you tell any women out there that if they are being stalked by someone like you that they should just lay back and enjoy it. Otherwise you'll have to kill them and claim you were just standing your ground.
If these fools name some hapless piece of drifting interplanetary space debris "Trayvon" in their misguided attempt to glorify a dead, racist, drug-abusing, violent criminal thug, how long until there's an IGG funding drive for development of a "Zimmerman" missile to destroy it?

At least something like this can give Trayvon's murder some significance and maybe someday a long time from now people will look up the Trayvon Asteroid for some random reason and read about what happened and how it got the name.
They will be astonished that morons like you still existed in 2013...but at least we will have done *something* permanent to let the universe know we all aren't sub-moronic sociopaths like you ;)

Unfortunately, Trayvon Martin wasn't around to tell his side of the story, which certainly would have been that he was minding his own business when George Zimmerman approached him and threatened him. George Zimmerman at no point in even his own story was minding his own business and acting in a peaceable manner.

more to our neighborhood...here on /. it's either full-on post bots or trolls...they troll from the perspective of a jealousy and anger. men today have been robbed of alot of agency that evolution granted us...physical superiority means virtually nothing in the battle of the sexes now...we have to exist in a social environment we're not evolutionarily optimized for...men are by a large margin in human history the killers of the tribe...women stay behind...

it's about evolution and bloodlust...and an ancient aristocracy that takes advantage of predictable human failings such as that to establish generational revenue streams...
it takes a level of maturity and self-respect to take responsibility for taking the wrong policy position and *changing*...that's another part of it...they just cant admit when they are wrong so they have to continually bullshit themselves to justify their existence...

>how can you possibly look at martin's behavior and not at all consider zimmerman's behavior? um, because only one of them was black. come on. the slashdot has a faction in it that is possibly more authoritarian, white, and afraid of blacks than any site i know of other than stormfront, even more than the freepers. i don't care what he facts were or what the behavior was, if the exact event occurred the opposite way (black man running down a stranger at night) they would claim the non-white being chased felt threatened and had every right to shoot the pursuer then, too. no matter how you rationalize it, the correct answer is to always shoot the black one. its just the way the i.t. community is. get over it.
