Meet the Voice Behind Siri

An anonymous reader writes in with a story about an actress who claims to be the voice behind Siri. "Own an iPhone or iPad? Since Siri was released on the iPhone 4S in 2011, I bet you, like me, have been wondering who the real voice behind Apple Virtual voice assistant Siri is. She has provided weather forecast, restaurants tips and has power announcements at airport around the world. Well, the real voice behind Siri has been revealed, and she is Atlanta-based Actress Susan Bennett. While her name might not ring a bell to you, her friends , those who have worked with her, her family and even forensics expert recognized her voice, and says she is the real Siri."

For what it's worth, I'm not even American... and before you think I've been trying to defend them. I'm just calling someone on being needlessly pedantic over a reference that while admittedly might not be known to people who haven't watched the show, has really very little to do with which side of the ocean a person is on. It very nearly borders needlessly on racism, and has no place in a forum that, at least theoretically, is aimed at audiences who, often by virtue of being somewhat outcast themselves, may tend to be more tolerant of people who don't necessarily think or act exactly like they do.

It's entirely fine to not know about the show... what's not fine is presuming that somebody is trying to somehow be unnecessarily exclusive just because they refer to something that they don't know about, or happens to not be quite as popular in another country. Again, the show that's being referred to is only moderately less popular in the UK than it is in the USA if you go by the population in each country, and it's really not a remotely far stretch for most people who visit this website to have not heard of the program and its characters.

The Soviets and Brits won World War II. The USA didn't do anything but come in at the very end and kick some people who were already down.

The Brits, Canucks & Aussies did play a minor part, but essentially Germany was defeated by Soviet ground troops and American bombs. Take those two out of the equation and "the West" would have had to rely on the Germans to defeat themselves (as the regime was busily doing).

Nonsense. Germany was at its largest in October 1942. Germany had almost defeated the world before the Americans got there. Sure by the time Normandy happened the German situation had deteriorated due to the serious inroads made by the Red Army on the Eastern Front and the saturation bombing of Germany by both British and increasingly American air power.

And even after Normandy "taking care of a few leftover stragglers" was a little tougher than anything you or I have ever experienced (and I have that on good authority, my father having been one the the stragglers).

America did nothing to the German numbers. Just take a look at the deaths on the east and west front. Over 4 million German deaths on the eastern front and not even 1 million on the western front. Those 4 million were killed by the Soviets alone. The less than 1 million were killed by multiple countries, with the USA killing maybe a couple thousand.

Again, America didn't do shit. Quit with your revisionist, American propaganda.
