"in certain circumstances" so it might be fine 98% of the time.
Remember that Microsoft is also a relatively new player in the computer hardware market. Apple, Dell, Toshiba have been at it for decades and therefore had time to learn from several power issues with their portable computers. Microsoft is essentially trying to leapfrog everyone with mitigated success.
I would increase my standard of living gradually until I no longer felt I was rich. Then I would complain about unreliable help, minimum wage hikes, high taxes and government entitlements.
I expect there will be a number of such switcharoos from open source to closed source then back again. It all depends who is the CIO and how Microsoft has influenced their lives.
Seems like they got what they paid for. I expect the requirements were really badly written; at that point, going for the lowest bidder will almost always land you the crappiest device.
Yet the mainframe is by far the most reliable and secure environment where to run production software. The folks working on mainframe have traditionally more rigour in their processes than those running mid-range servers. At least it was the case not that long ago.
I'm sure there's a theme/skin/ricing that makes Windows 7 look and perform just like Windows 10. So you can have the look and feel in case you have an urge to upgrade.
You're not alone buddy. Linux Mint has been my desktop OS since version 16.
I wish Microsoft was more interested in being the good guy instead of the bully.
I think people liked Metro. It's the confusion in having some components in Metro (with almost no features) and it's traditional desktop cousin which had all the features you'd expect. Metro simplified too much. As soon as you needed real power, you needed to switch to the desktop version. Most of Windows management components were no available in the Metro UI.
I'm not sure Windows 10 solved this... time will tell.
That being said, I'm glad you liked Metro.
1. Ask.com has always been included in Java installations.
2. Yahoo isn't the first to sneak themselves as a replacement search engine.
3. Proper browsers will stop this unless user approves.
4. I can always switch back.
Why? Don't you miss those screens full off highly functional toolbars? With 4K+ resolution monitors, we should be able to pack a few hundred more in IE (or whatever it's called today).
Why does it matter? If Apple pulled them voluntarily then good for Apple. If it's a government agency, then great for them as well in doing their job. The issue is more about getting the OK to sell the product in the first place. Clearly, this thing wasn't tested properly.
IANAP but I think it doesn't escape once in the black hole. However, on the way there, matter gets mangled and ripped apart which happens before it actually crosses the event horizon. This is where these emissions take place.
thousands of pedestrians are killed each year just in the United States
That number might be a lot less as it likely includes people who commit suicide. Same things with many traffic accidents. However, you cannot commit suicide by asteroid strike.
Hard for me to agree that a language is forgiving when it avoids syntax pitfalls other languages might contain. Forgiving implies it let's things go. In this case, Java by its design and nature, helps avoid problems you would otherwise need to deal with when using another language.

Given cloud storage removable storage is a niche requirement.

Pretty much. That's the point of living in a walled garden. You break the wall, who knows what's going to step inside.

Indeed. I expect Microsoft will try to ban them for the unfair competition.

You are greatly diminishing the importance of funding.
One should never go full proprietary.
I think we will see somebody complain about getting raped by such a game.
Let's not get carried away here. You can always remove the head gear or turn-off the device. Although I can see some complaining anyway.
Why is this flamebait at the moment?

Not to mention OS orientation.

So that's where all the anti-matter went.
