Snowden Docs Show UK's Digital Spies Using Viruses, Honey Traps
An anonymous reader writes "At the start of this week, documents released by whistleblower Edward Snowden detailed DDOS attacks on chatrooms by a British online intelligence unit dubbed the Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group (JTRIG). Now he has released a new trove showing that JTRIG is about much more than purely online annoyances. According to the documents, released to NBC News, JTRIG's role is to "deny, disrupt, degrade and deceive" by any means possible. These techniques include destroying an individual's computer with a custom virus dubbed "Ambassador's Reception", setting up social media honey traps to harvest embarrassing information, actively attacking companies online and off, and planting data on people's systems."
The one time JTRIG may do some good by DDOSing Beta.
Oh, also governments of the world = /. Beta IMNSHO.
You can't handle the truth.
Please post this to new articles if it hasn't been posted yet. (Copy-paste the html from here so links don't get mangled!)
On February 5, 2014, Slashdot announced through a javascript popup that they are starting to "move in to" the new Slashdot Beta design. Slashdot Beta is a trend-following attempt to give Slashdot a fresh look, an approach that has led to less space for text and an abandonment of the traditional Slashdot look. Much worse than that, Slashdot Beta fundamentally breaks the classic Slashdot discussion and moderation system.
If you haven't seen Slashdot Beta already, open this in a new tab. After seeing that, click here to return to classic Slashdot.
We should boycott stories and only discuss the abomination that is Slashdot Beta until Dice abandons the project.
We should boycott slashdot entirely during the week of Feb 10 to Feb 17 as part of the wider slashcott
Moderators - only spend mod points on comments that discuss Beta
Commentors - only discuss Beta
http://slashdot.org/recent - Vote up the Fuck Beta stories
Keep this up for a few days and we may finally get the PHBs attention.

Thank you for the update!
... but another user here: FUCK BETA.
They will lose me as a user once BETA goes mandatory.
Oh, I won't make them money because I am allowed "to have ads disabled"...
What this fiasco represents is a challenge to the real /. community. That challenge is to find a way to recreate /. with a structure that is more resistant to corporate hijacking. A structure that rightfully recognises the community as centrally important; not as an "audience" that is simply a variable in the revenue equation. It might take a while, but it can be done.

Also... FUCK BETA... im a regular reader of slashdot and had to create an account to speak against the Beta... its awful really. This new interfaces, the JS overload in the browser... its nothing like the old good slashdot. It is certain things have to improve but do not "improve" like windows, PLEASE. Slashdot is better than that. Listen to the users, listen to the readers, listen to the community
"...and planting data on people's systems."
So the NSA is responsible for beta?

by TheSpoom (715771) Uncaring Linux user here. I have nothing to add to this but please continue. *munches popcorn*
Go get medical treatment. You'll feel better and we don't have to read paranoid bullshit.
