Sinkhole Swallows 8 Vehicles Inside Bowling Green KY Corvette Museum
OakDragon writes "A sinkhole about 40 feet wide — and 30 feet deep — opened up inside the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY early Thursday morning, swallowing eight vehicles that were sitting inside. At least one of these cars is one of a kind, and due to its location the fire department allowed its removal. The sinkhole is remarkable in that it has left the surrounding ground which supports the circular structure intact, although that assessment may change up on investigation. Security footage from inside the museum shows the collapse as it happened."
It were under Jay Leno's !!
Which makes leaving them there a bit perplexing?
I'm sure they *thought* it was safe, but why keep rare and precious objects there when you know there is a big problem ready to happen?
the sinkhole was likely an attempted theft using underground tunnels to bore directly into the car museum. the coolest part is that the tunnel made itself using the sinkhole-ray and the cars fell into the hole and they just drove them off!
When will peoples learn to stop dividing by zero. It's unsafe and irresponsible.
The ZR1 that set the 7:19.63 Nurburgring lap time survived.
Too bad the Blue Devil ZR-1 was lost.

At least no people got hurt, unlike that poor guy who had a sinkhole open up under his bedroom and died.
But you'd have thought if the original builders knew about sinkholes they've have either build a very thick concrete base slab and/or plenty of deep piles. Looking at that mess they did neither.
Powerful KY jelly... 8 cars? Not bad.
Thankyou for telling us the horsepower of your old-man car. How boring.
Obviously, it's the end times. Next up, dogs and cats living together.
One of the things you can count on slashdot for is a bunch of posts by sanctimonious twats pretending to know more than someone else. Yes there are caves under the museum, they cover a vast region of this part of the country. What you do not know is that across the highway they are building a speedway and moving tons of earth around. It is not the original builders lack of slabs and piles to blame (Although I got a laugh out of people suggesting that was the failure here), nor is it a lack of geologic awareness. Stop pretending to know what the fuck you are talking about.

Clearly, this was the work of the devil. He's pure evil, so clearly he has no problem with "downloading" a few cars!

Someone mentioned caves below the structure and I think you can make one to two of them out.

"+YouOriginal I'm with that guy^^ Who gives a fuck??.. and on top of that, it was the shittiest Quad-copter not "helicopter" footage I've seen.. This asshole took two minutes trying to figure out how to fly it.. then spend a whole of 20 secs in the hole and didn't even check anything out.. Then the ass wipe didn't edit out the bullshit on the end, i guess he had to go ask three engineers how to turn the camera off.." -Uriah Prost46
Stupid sinkhole attacked the wrong museum in Kentucky.
I struggled for days and days and all I got was this lousy sig.
It isn't like they lost some nice German or Italian cars.
The beta sinkhole swallowed 8 ACs first, however one was a rare GNAA troll and due to it's recent scarcity slashdot is allowing their removal. The sinkhole is remarkable in that it has left the surrounding stories intact while decimating comments, although that assessment may change according to Soulskill

Are we on /. supposed to mourn or to celebrate the distruction of plastic cars that don't particularly corner well? I thought so.

I didn't realize there were two museums in Kentucky.
Oh well. Rotten luck that the cars got hit.

What does this have to do with water conduits? This is a geological issue.
Repair would be filling in the hole. Rehabilitation would mean making that filling structurally sound and ensuring that it doesn't collapse again in the near future.
He made that wrong turn in Albuquerque again.

he's probably thinking of the infamous Guatemala sinkholes (2007 and 2010), which were partially caused due to erosion from leaky sewers.

They gleefully create sinkholes by intentionally draining wetlands. It's awesome to see them for once hurt themselves with their actions instead of leaving families with children without water. Without water, those children die as we're seeing with their recent attack on water in WV. Those people are sick with their worship of cars, and this car, in case you don't know about it, is the epitome of white trash in the USA. Only poor and uneducated people, in other words Republicans, like those things.
Those poor cars are gone. List here of the specific cars damaged http://blog.carsforsale.com/index.php/national-corvette-museum-sinkhole-swallows-8-showroom-classics/
... and shit like this doesn't happen....
and stop building structurally sensitive parts out of cardboard...
