NVIDIA Unveils Next Gen Pascal GPU With Stacked 3D DRAM and GeForce GTX Titan Z
MojoKid (1002251) writes "NVIDIA's 2014 GTC (GPU Technology Conference) kicked off today in San Jose California, with NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang offering up a healthy dose of new information on next generation NVIDIA GPU technologies. Two new NVIDIA innovations will be employed in their next-gen GPU technology, now know by its code named 'Pascal." First, there's a new serial interconnect known as NVLink for GPU-to-CPU and GPU-to-GPU communication. Though details were sparse, apparently NVLink is a serial interconnect that employs differential signaling with embedded clock and it allows for unified memory architectures and eventually cache coherency. It's similar to PCI Express in terms of command set and programming model but NVLink will offer a massive 5 — 12X boost in bandwidth up to 80GB/sec.
The second technology to power NVIDIA's forthcoming Pascal GPU is 3D stacked DRAM technology. The technique employs through-silicon vias that allow the ability to stack DRAM die on top of each other and thus provide much more density in the same PCB footprint for the DRAM package. Jen-Hsun also used his opening keynote to show off NVIDIA's most powerful graphics card to date, the absolutely monstrous GeForce GTX Titan Z. The upcoming GeForce GTX Titan Z is powered by a pair of GK110 GPUs, the same chips that power the GeForce GTX Titan Black and GTX 780 Ti. All told, the card features 5,760 CUDA cores (2,880 per GPU) and 12GB of frame buffer memory—6GB per GPU. NVIDIA also said that the Titan Z's GPUs are tuned to run at the same clock speed, and feature dynamic power balancing so neither GPU creates a performance bottleneck."

And you'll never need to turn on the heater again!
Can it run Crysis?
but switching to Pascal is a step in the right direction if a bit retro, I guess.
Every Nvidia GPU we've purchased for CUDA compute tasks in the past five years has crashed frequently under load.
Wouldn't that make it 4D?
Either its the BEGINning of a new era in GPUs , or its called Pascal because its actually French and will go on strike the minute its asked to render a game more complex than Flappy Bird.
Sounds like it will blaise past the competition.
hunter1....you're mine now!
If this generation of GPUs is being called "Pascal," that means the next generation of GPUs will be called "Visual Basic."
I've 780 SLI since last year, almost the same performance of a Titan Z for less than USD 1,000.
Way to go NVidia...
Like the things that they announced last year, which have simply disappeared off the roadmap without mention. In other words, they are falling behind schedule, and trying desperately to spin this as ongoing progress.
Who gives a shit? What the fuck does Google Drive have to do with a submission about Nvida? You off-topic bastard!
2*6GB of RAM in a display card? That will take a few vertexes and textures to fill;)
Isn't this more or less precisely how the PS4 is designed? If my memory(!) servers me correctly I'd call this a pretty good design move by Sony, something that should potentially bode well for the longevity of that console, once the games are designed for this type of architecture.
They've "F'd them up" since the TDRDebug & TDdiDebug crap MS put in to attempt to "compensate" for video driver fails during a patch Tuesday cycle... & "OH sure - just change those settings in the registry manually if/when one of our 'new drivers' doesn't work" - Ahem: WTF!?! I shouldn't HAVE TO DO THAT @ ALL/period!
I have though, attempting to "fix" what should NOT NEED A FIX that way, period... still fucks up.
* :(
(I'm also FAR from the only person that's seen that hassle too - I wish MS + NVidia would get their SHIT together on this is all...)
APK
P.S.=> Thing is, NVidia used to make the BEST DAMN DRIVERS THERE WAS (from my experience since, oh, 2000 using their stuff), until this CRAP started... apk
I made VIC-20 RAM expansion cartridges when I was a kid. Stacking the DIPs and bending out the chip select line (and later, the RW line for playing ROMs) was the way to go! I must have been a genius. (looks around) What went wrong?
Borland Delphi Object Pascal 7.1 to be precise (?) -> http://start64.com/index.php?o...

(Great language & IDE - does everything pretty much that C++ can do (except multiple inheritance) & as EASILY as VB... best of BOTH worlds, in 1 tool!)
APK
P.S.=> It's my favorite, & has been, since it "stole me away" from MSVC++ &/or MSVB circa 1997, when Delphi "knocked the chocolate" out of them BOTH in 7/10 tests (especially MATH & STRING work, where it literally DOUBLED & THEN SOME its score in the tests over MSVC++ even...) done, no less, in a competing trade journal (Visual Basic Programmer's Journal Sept./Oct. 1997 issue "Inside the VB 5 Compiler")...
... apk
All told, the card features 5,760 CUDA cores (2,880 per GPU) and 12GB of frame buffer memory—6GB per GPU
So... does that mean that the graphics card I just bought is outdated already??
LOGO would have been a better choice, since it's a graphically oriented language.
Turtles all the way down.
the preceding comment is my own and in no way reflects the opinion of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
How about getting your drivers to work?
Warning: Pregnant women, the elderly, and children under 10 should avoid prolonged exposure to the GTX Titan-Z.
Caution: the GTX Titan-Z may suddenly accelerate to dangerous speeds.
the GTX Titan-Z contains a liquid core, which, if exposed due to rupture, should not be touched, inhaled, or looked at.
Do not use the GTX Titan-Z on concrete.
Discontinue use of the GTX Titan-Z if any of the following occurs:
itching
vertigo
dizziness
tingling in extremities
loss of balance or coordination
slurred speech
temporary blindness
profuse sweating
heart palpitations
If the GTX Titan-Z begins to smoke, get away immediately. Seek shelter and cover head.
the GTX Titan-Z may stick to certain types of skin.
When not in use, the GTX Titan-Z should be returned to its special container and kept under refrigeration. Failure to do so relieves the makers of the GTX Titan-Z, Wacky Products Incorporated, and its parent company, Global Chemical Unlimited, of any and all liability.
Ingredients of the GTX Titan-Z include an unknown glowing substance which fell to Earth, presumably from outer space.
the GTX Titan-Z has been shipped to our troops in Saudi Arabia and is also being dropped by our warplanes on Iraq.
Do not taunt the GTX Titan-Z.
the GTX Titan-Z comes with a lifetime guarantee.
I remember buying memory modules where the memory was stacked way the hell back when.
The thing that's interesting about this iteration is the fact that pass-throughs have been built straight into the silicon.
Chas - The one, the only.
THANK GOD!!!
I know the HISTORY of the language moron (& I even use it, do you? Doubt it).

I'll wait until they supply DirectX and OpenGL bindings for Brainfuck.
Any graphics card mfg should be putting figures out for their cards on the mining hash rates they get for whatever virtual coin it's capable of mining. .5% off of your btc as well at scrypt.cc?ref=baagt.
Someone just posted code that allows you to mine SHA256 coins with Nvidia cards... it's a CUDA ccMiner app. Look for it on Github as I don't trust just random website downloads. Make
Nvidia has been the follower of the pack for mining scrypt coins for quite some time. Will be interesting to see if they come out with a mining specific card like AMD is working on. :)
Keep it Clean! :D
I know the language's history, fool: Did YOU read what I wrote? No, obviously... & by comparison to YOUR USELESS ASS?? I actually even DO things folks can use gaining undeniably greater speed, security, reliability, + even more anonymity (to an extent) online with it... unlike YOU.

APK
P.S.=> There's 2 kinds of people: The "REAL deal" (myself, who actually know & use programming tools to do good stuff for others) & those that merely know "histories" (or write about them, but doing nothing else), like you (which I knew TOO, because the Turbo Pascal boxes for DOS even had photos of Blaise Pascal on them, & I've been using it since version 4.5 into 7.0 for DOS, then Turbo Pascal for Windows later, & lastly, Borland Delphi - unlike YOU, a mere "big talker" b.s. artist, lol)... apk
If I were picking a codename for my next product, I'm not sure I'd pick the name of a language famous for being useless for real work without vendor extensions.
No, show us YOURS (that you don't have) & I posted a link to a Pascal app I did!
Now - & as far as my sourcecode?
Ask Mr. Steven Burn who is 1 of the sites in the security community that hosts my app for me, no less!
(He's hpHosts' malwarebytes site owner & works for malwarebytes)
Yes - he's SEEN & VERIFIED IT for passing JOTTI online tests & others (for security purposes): sburn@malwarebytes.org (OR contact him here http://blog.malwarebytes.org/a... )

P.S.=> YOU fail (on ALL levels) & as was said here by others in regards to yourself? The ONLY JOKE around here, is you... apk
I never boasted that either. Attempting to "put words in my mouth" I never said? Please, lol - YOU? Fail!

P.S.=> Again: "Rinse, Lather, & Repeat" you done zilch talker -> http://hardware.slashdot.org/c... & especially since you are NOTHING but "talk" & no action, whereas I can show the reverse on MY end, easily (& you? Can't... lol!).

This is hillarious!
Everybody here thinks it is named after the programming language.
Tesla, Fermi, Kepler, Pascal,...
What do they all have in common???
yeah: a car, a satelite and a programming language
Thanks for the mental illness Obama!
the schools are pathetic and half of them are republicans
The problem likely will be the yield rates as its manufactured as one piece instead of stacking multiple dies wcih can be pretested before assembling.
They will have to do every trick they know (and probably new ones) to get around the inevitable defects (extra redundancy and patching circuitry) and with the multiple higher level functionality (instead of just the bit cells or individual bit lines) their will potentially entire malfunctioning BANKS to be dealt with.
Does Slow and Wide work so well for main (CPU) memory though? Computing may revert back to 'batch' processing using huge cache lines which is very poor for very random memory processing (like AI)
But how fast does it mine Bitcoin?
