Chinese Couple Sells Children To Support Online Game Addiction
hypnosec writes After several controversies arising about in-app purchases, a Chinese couple has done the unthinkable by selling their sons to buy in-app items. An unmarried couple, A Hui and A Mei, severely addicted to online games, were accused of selling their sons and were arrested. In an interview with Guangdong TV, they revealed that they chose to sell their sons to child traffickers. A Hui said A Mei is fond of playing online games and likes to buy game items. As he could not give up his in-app purchases, he was not able to support his first son and they sold him to Fujian-based child traffickers. When the wife bore another son, they felt they would not be able to support their second child either, and they again sold him to the traffickers.

Well, that's it, we're broke. It's science experiments for the lot of you!

I sold mine to pay for my first post addiction!

You might think this is getting to be epidemic in China or somebody over there takes advantage of gullible westerners ?
It sounds like these two will soon be executed. Without being in favor of the death penalty it sounds like it may well have a silver lining in this case. If the facts are as presented, at least, it's probably a very good thing they wont be reproducing again.
Still, surgical sterilization would do the job as well, and unlike the death penalty, it is at least possible it could be reversed, should it eventually come out that the two were somehow framed and not really guilty.

Which game was it?
Give him a break. He got the first six words right!
If these parents preferred in-game geegaws to their children then even going to Fujian child traffickers there's a fair chance that the children would end up in more caring homes than they started in.
What are Asian babies going for nonwadays. I cannot imagine very much. It does not cost that much to feed a person for a year of conception, and you might get two or three children out of one birth
Troll is not a replacement for I disagree.
What game was it, so we can judge them?
I swear if it was a mobile game...
Somehow I remembered the panels where the guy goes to the ATM and sells his family when I read this news:

Have they fallen so far as to ignore proper spelling in the title?
Fuck Beta
you can get alot of money giving chinese babies to white americans. all i'm saying
they were obviously not so much addicted as to not even sleep with each other any more ;)
nah, seriously, lock those people up good and take away all gadgets.
In all seriousness, is this what happens when you make drugs punishable by the death penalty?
Soon Candy Crush will make us sell all of our children to work in the gumdrop mines so we can keep buying coconut wheels.

Why not something even more sinister, like "Toothless United States junkies sell children for meth"
The Chinese government has a history of decrying online games and making up ludicrous situations via the State-run media. Non-state news agencies that re-publish this practically define credulity.
...a grandmother?
What the fuck?! Selling your kid to become super badass on some shitty pay2win game... sigh I cannot think, that is just so fucked up... I hope they rape his ass with a chainsaw.
These parents would be consisered ideal/heroes, and placed on a pedestal to inspire other parents to do the same.

World of Warcraft needs an in-game auction house for children.
Are we supposed to believe that people who sell their children can be generalized as especially evil if they are gamers, addicts, or Chinese? I mean what does that really have to do with it ? There are no good reasons for baby selling - its just bad for any reason. I bet these gamey baby sellers had a lot of other characteristics that were even more illuminating: like perhaps they were nuts or they had a spectrum disorder, or they were evil. Maybe they sucked at games and hate Chinese food. Somehow this headline smacks of "yellow" journalism. We always need to remind the west how shifty the majority population behaves. We believe in democracy as long as we out number them, but they don't get a vote if they are gonna sell babies for angry birds. Should we feel a bit superior because our gamers never have sex and therefore can't sell their children? Or perhaps that our baby sellers do it for better addictions, more cash, or porn? Somehow the story strikes me as a bad slant on China (sic) ...I mean everyone knows you keep the boys and sell the girls to desperate rich middle aged infertile Americans that will divorce before the child hits puberty.

Yeah, right.
We've got to get this news to Central America. They are sending their kids up to the USA for free.
Have gnu, will travel.
This kind of news tends to end up debunked after a couple weeks. I'd take it with a grain of salt.
Specially when it's fake news about China. God damn we sure like to make them look weirder than they are.
This doesn't sound made-up at all.
So long as the child traffickers sell them for adoption into family homes... and not to those who will raise them for prostitution, or raise them for farm labor, or raise them to cripple them and set them to begging, or...

There have been worse stories than this - one gaming addicted couple (maybe 2 years ago) sold their child to pay for their gaming, and got pregnant with the intent of selling their new one to pay for gaming as well.. they were also arrested. I can't remember what happened with the baby. There are also stories of parents selling their children for Apple products. People here are seriously sick in the head for money - it's a common problem with a lot of younger people especially... there is so much 'new wealth' around, typically not hard earned, and I suppose it influences a lot of people who, in a society where their self-worth is largely determined by how much money they've got in relation to those they went to high school/university with, I guess it's inevitable. If you do some research on child abductions and missing children - also - there are tens of thousands of new children going missing every year, at least. That's not including the ones who were intentionally sold. Farmers can sell their children into essentially slavery at just a couple years old, and do so for as little as 5000rmb (less than 1k USD). These children are often put out on the street while they're that young to panhandle, carrying cheap little flowers to harass people outside of clubs to buy the flowers for their partners, or at restaurants, or wherever. When they're older, the boys typically go into thieving, and the girls a far worse fate. It's truly a terrible circumstance, and if you live here, you can _ABSOLUTELY_ see it first hand.
Sleep issues can be caused by microwave radiation -- i.e. wireless / wi-fi / cell phones / etc. Mine were.
I imagine if you were gaming that you had wireless networking around. Very high levels from wireless routers.
Also, take melatonin...
"Hui" has a nice meaning in Russian :)
You think editors here care about the literacy of submitted articles?
All that matters is whether they are friends with the submitters.
I guarantee you a much better written version was submitted before this one by a no-name and they rejected it.
If people were more aware of the practices of these idiots, this website would die a much needed death.
Some WoW addict read this as: "Procreation: A source of revenue to fund your WoW leveling"
Now, now, be fair. The "editing" was bullshit before DICE took over.
"You're right," Fisheye says. "I should have set it on 'whip' or 'chop.'"
What gets me about this story isn't that they sold their children... you're going to have one or two parents out there in any society that are so screwed up in their heads that they'd contemplate such an option to fund whatever addiction they may have. The significance is that it's so easy to do so in China.
Apparently it's not "unthinkable".
you had me at #!
We will take these poor destitute kids and give them to our children's perversion services (cps) whose job is to take at risk kids who might be being molested by their evil nonconformist homeschooling parents and send them to a giant concentration camp where they are guaranteed to be molested. Social services depends on a steady supply of children to feed their bidget . No state senator or representative should have to spend a summer w/o the comfort of a nubile child. usian parents aren't having enough, so we need to import them from south / central america. President Obama has realized there is a crisis of not enough children so he is on the southern border to import more. It takes a village to molest a child, and the usian government is the village elders. The USA needs the worlds children.
Is a Bidget some kind of "usian" child eating monster? Like the German witch in the Black Forest that cooked up poor Hans with carrots and potatos?
I was-a eating a da spagetti with-a the onlion sauce so thought it was a recipe for-a how serve human.
Would the headline have been less "clickable" if the nationality of the couple wasn't mentioned?
