Free Comic Book Day Event Features Neil Gaiman, the Simpsons

An anonymous reader writes: Today comic book stores around the world celebrate "Free Comic Book Day", offering anyone who pays them a visit some free comic books. This year there's 50 different titles to choose from, including a reprint of Neil Gaiman's "Lady Justice" (not seen in print in nearly 25 years) and a new Fight Club story by Chuck Palahniuk. The Marvel and D.C. universes are represented, as well as Dr. Who, The Simpsons, Jim Henson's Labyrinth, and even something called Steampunk Goldilocks. Saturday many bookstores will also be recognizing "Independent Bookstores Day" with special events, though ironically, some fans may be tempted to visit Amazon.com instead to download some free Kindle editions of last year's free comic books.

    Nuh uh. Doctor, not Dr.

And that's not quite just pedantic nerdrage talking. Dr. Who is similar-but-different character from a separate fictional universe.

    So there.

Interesting nerdfact: they were planning to refer to the Dr. Who films in the 50th anniversery episode as having been inspired by the real Doctor, but they couldn't afford the rights to use the posters.

This whole thing is stupid. Women gravitate less toward a certain field, more toward others. Men gravitate less toward daycare and more toward bashing shit with a hammer. Investing a tremendous amount of energy gets one or two anecdotes of "wow! This gave me the confidence to stop being shy and get into the field I really wanted to be in, but thought nobody would accept me for, and it's fantastic!" Guess what? Those success stories won't start just rolling in when you "get it right"; they're all a bunch of losers. Especially Neil Gaiman
