  1. - No one told them to firewall the throttles. Excessive speed made trimming more difficult.
    - No one told them to turn the malfunctioning MCAS back on, which put the aircraft into its final fatal dive.

  7. Were They Their Own Moons? on NASA's Photos of Ultima Thule Suggest Long-Ago Moons (jhuapl.edu) · · Score: 1

With damn-all in the vicinity (I mean, where would those moons go, right?), one would think the two chunks orbiting one another over the eons until they finally slowed enough to gently ease together (that "fender bender" is a catching image) would've done the trick. With no need for mythological missing moons.

Imagine the expense of that airport being shut down like that, the inconvenience (and sometimes downright distress) for all the passengers, etc. Someone needs to be punished for it, no question, but no question it should be someone guilty.

  16. Damage? Wot Damage? on Leaning Tower of Pisa is Leaning Less Than Before, Say Experts (theguardian.com) · · Score: 1

I see nothing, in any of the links to the Tower of Pisa, that even hint of it being damaged during WW II. It was in danger, no question, given bombing in the city, and the well-known incident of an American Army artillery spotter deciding not to bring fire on it when it was (maybe) being used as a German observation post.

    But no damaqe.

  17. They could spray or spread the sulfur as a powder, no need to burn it, one would think. The volcanoes pumped out sulfur dioxide, but the original link says sulfur particulates, particles, powder.

I'd be more concerned about how many tons of jet fuel it would take to haul 20 million tons of sulfur particulates into the stratosphere.

And yes, one must wonder of the side effects of all that sulfur dust settling back down on the land and oceans.
