AmiMoJo writes: While far from a household name, Noriyoshi Ohrai painted some of the most well known Hollywood movie posters, as well as numerous posters and covers for Western and Japanese media alike. That's a link to that annoying "Let me Google that for you" site, for anyone who hasn't already clicked on it.

I'm posting to undo my upmod, this kind of asshole snark contributes nothing to a conversation. If you disagree with the GP's comment about Kotaku then by all means disagree. There's no need to be a jerk about it.

"Obiturary: World-famous illustrator and Miyazaki City resident, Noriyoshi Ohrai passed away due to pneumonia on the 27th at a hospital in Kunitomi (town). He was 79 years old. Working out of Miyazaki City, Mr. Ohrai was a world-famous illustrator having created posters for "Star Wars" and "Godzilla" series and had won a prefectural culture award a year before last. Wake will be held on the 28th from 7PM and funeral services will be on the 29th from 12:10PM, both at the Priere-Group Hall in Miyazaki City." note, wiki seems to reference cgmagonline.com anyways. also, /. seems to not support Japanese input that well.

With so many great Japanese artists, in the drawing/painting arena, I am willing to bet something in the teachings of writing Japanese Kanji is helpful when learning to draw. Be it attention to detail, hand eye coordination, patience, or some combination I don't know, but I see it time and time again. On topic, this guy was great, and I am sorry to see him go.
