Pakistan Orders ISPs To Block Over 400k Porn Websites (independent.co.uk)
Bruce66423 writes: The agency that regulates telecommunications in Pakistan has ordered ISPs to block a huge list of adult websites. "The action follows a recent order passed down by the Supreme Court in Pakistan requiring the telecom sector to 'take remedial steps to quantify the nefarious phenomenon of obscenity and pornography that has an imminent role to corrupt and vitiate the youth of Pakistan.' According to the Express Tribune, just days after the ruling by the Supreme Court, the telecom sector regulator, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, added it had provided internet service providers with a list of 429,343 domains to be blocked as it attempts to control the distribution of pornographic material.

Then how are they gonna know what 72 v's are like?
Table-ized A.I.
Holy Money Shot Batman!!!
It's as if the voices of millions of goats suddenly bleated in terror, and were silenced.
Seven puppies were harmed during the making of this post.
Is the list on line somewhere? Cause I want to. .. block those sites on my router. .. yeah that's it.
Um... how do I get ahold of that list for, you know, research purposes?
I've abandoned my search for truth; now I'm just looking for some useful delusions.
Oh just bluck off!
But not before we get to know what is in that list. Clearly the pakistani officials made a good effort to compile a list of quality smut on the internet, and we all want to know where it is!
Boobies: Oh, the HORRORS!
Beheadings: Meh, s'ok.
I doubt they block encrypted traffic. Working around this with a VPN or tunnel would be trivial.
Have gnu, will travel.
Ooo. "vitiate" is my new word of the week. Sounds like good sport to me.... :)
To borrow a phrase from Mr. Universe: "You can't stop the signal, Mal. Everything goes somewhere, and porn goes everywhere."
I think not...(*poof*)
So they're trying this on a small limited basis first, i see.

So we can ASK for the list? Seriously - viewing it might reveal censorship of politics and religion, not just smut.
What's the difference between Pakistani and Portuguese situation? I'll tell you: in Pakistan ISP's are forced to respect a Supreme Court ruling, here in Portugal ISP's are forced by bureaucrats to block dozens of "pirate" sites.
Wow, I've never seen anyone try to cut the heads off of a hydra that big before. It'll be amusing to see their reaction when the resulting mass of new heads looms above them.
This means more porn for me.
You are welcome on my lawn.
You ever watch jurasic park and remeber the line "Nature will find a way". Well this is the same thing with teen agers and porn. They will find a way. It is laughable that they would try to prevent this kind of activity.
Where's the list? For research purposes only, of course!
I've got to get busy if I'm going to visit all of those before I die.
So far I'm up to only 175,395 sites! And, damn, my arm is tired.
Surely I'm not uncommon in recognizing this as a profit opportunity.
I know people are up in arms over censorship, but really all this will do is strengthen the options for bypassing it. Freedom needs exercise too. Somebody will set up bypass tools and make a bundle of money and at the same time make it that much harder for the next round of censorship attempts.
I wonder if they will be blocking goat porn

Now they will just have to stare at those ankles.
My guess is those idiots were spending too much time masturbating over porn because 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and if you do not know what that stands for you do not belong on /. but do belong in some idiot Pakistani agency telling ISPs what to do. They kind of did point out the blocking is occurring at local ISP dns server level, well, ain't that an exercise in futility. Next step, oh my the difficulty, simply advertise your IP addresses (IPv4) and your IPv6 address range. There is a sneaky way of doing this with links, so the web domain names appears in the hyperlink but the actual IP address is used instead of the domain name.
Chaos - everything, everywhere, everywhen
the nefarious phenomenon of obscenity and pornography that has an imminent role to corrupt and vitiate the youth of Pakistan
Yeah, because the spread of islam and radical forms of any religion don't already do this.
If every guy polished their wax statue once a day, I think this world would be much more peaceful.
Have you ever fallen asleep at the keybhanusdiog?
Dang it. I *knew* my computer was running slow the other day. They must've hacked in to my computer and downloaded my bookmarks file.
Dear Slashdot: next time you want to mess with the site, add a rich-text editor for comments.
Their country, their rules. If people don't like it they can either oust the government and install a new one or leave.
Is it censorship? Sure. But it's the responsibility of the people who are being censored to do something to resolve it.
So, just the stuff with camels then.
