Microsoft Adding More Ads To Windows 10 Start Menu (theverge.com)
Microsoft plans to double the number of promoted apps in Start menu. The change, which is scheduled to come with the upcoming Anniversary Update to Windows 10, will see the promoted apps count rise to 10. Tom Warren, writing for The Verge: Some promoted apps are pre-installed, but Microsoft notes that they can be fully uninstalled and any promoted items removed from the Start menu. Microsoft has not revealed exactly why the number of promoted apps is doubling, but it's likely that the company is using it as another method to attract developers to its Windows Store.
Yet another false pedanticism.
Remember, people; the dictionary is only a list of known uses of words. It isn't an exclusive list, just a list of stuff that is known.
So even if the dictionary agreed with you, you'd be wrong. But it doesn't.
In English we have lists of known words, and style guides. There aren't any rules, other than that if it isn't clear what the meaning is, then that is non-optimal. It is easy to write something that sucks, or is meaningless, but much harder to write something that is "wrong." But a false pedanticism is a sure a good try.
Well here;s the thing that people like you with their made up straw man arguments are not acknowledging. Microsoft sold you windows WHATEVER, you own a license to run that software. They did NOT sell you lifetime updates for that software. You don't want to upgrade? Fucking don't, that;s your choice. you can easily, right fucking now, stop win 7, 8, 8.1 from upgrading. You can, but you won't, because it's a straw man. You are free to continue using 8. Fuck my customized XP disk still works just fine, installs And RUNs! What magic is this? If you want to continue on with an outdated and unsupported OS, that's entirely up to you, but you lose the ability to bitch and moan about Microsoft being the least secure, because you've actively decided to keep it insecure. and don't even bother mentioned the EULA you agreed to without reading, that's your own god damn fault. This self absorbed entitlement needs to go. But hey, this isn't limited to Microsoft. We're currently supporting (HAH) unsupported Redhat systems because the applications only work on those versions, and we no longer have patch support. Could we move to an OS that does provide this? Sure! Will we? No, because then the linux guys have 1 less thing to bitch and whine about at every god damn meeting. So when exactly did MS trick you into upgrading? Was it when they offered you the ability to reserve the copy? was it the nagging "your update is ready"? No. I suspect, just like the other fucking soccer moms, you clicked "deliver recomended updates" or whatever the fuck that setting is. Sure, they changed the category of the win10 upgrade to recommended, but YOU still had to DELIBERATELY tell windows update to treat recommended updates like the required ones. Now, most of the straw man is lying in a pile, but what remains? the tracking. Well, go ahead and read the agreement you made with Apple, or Google, or ANYFUCKING SERVICE COMPANY, and you'll see it's nothing new. but yeah, it sucks. But it's no surprise unless you are an illiterate sloth living under a rock. As well, you AGREED to this by installing it. So what's after that? The ads? Yes, that's a little above and beyond, putting ads into solitaire to get me to pay for it is fine, I don't play solitaire. Ads on the start menu? Now see, I've heard of this, I'm told they are there. The thing I find myself left wondering is.... What fucking start menu? I have never once used that start menu like I did in ANY other MS os. I may click into it to start typing the name of whatever I need, But I've never navigated through it, and I don't recall ever even looking at it after the install completed. and with everything else, they've actually given you the ability to remove them. sure they MAY take it away someday, but are we really going to dump on companies for things they MAY do at a later date? Because the entire Linux community could go hands off and let every distro die, or better yet, remove all the GNU protected material and go the paid route. They COULD. And hey, Apple COULD decide to make itunes less shitty. They could.
