Google Searches For 'VR Porn' Increase 10,000% (vrtalk.com)
Slashdot reader Bob768 writes: Over the last 20 months, with the rise of virtual reality technology, the number of Google searches for the phrase 'VR Porn' have soared nearly 10,000%. The leading country for these searches is Norway.
Last November searches for the term experienced the "spike of all spikes", according to a post on the VR Talk forum, which also identifies the top cities (two in Australia) for the searches -- Helsinki, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Singapore, Tel Aviv, and Seoul.

1. With occulus rift being vaporware, which glasses are the best for viewing 3D porn?
2. What are the best sites for "be the girl" porn? (serious question)

How about you try to correlate it with number of VR sets in those countries.
That at least might give you some interesting numbers.
The way that article was written, it may just be one airline pilot that was anticipating getting his vr set, and now he's finally gotten it and is really excited.
Trolling, bad geography or bad counting?
Luckily, nobody ever makes Google searches after seeing a Slashdot post.
which also identifies the top cities (two in Australia) for the searches -- Helsinki, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Singapore, Tel Aviv, and Seoul.
... Which of the two cities are in Australia; Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane? (The forum post, by the way, makes no mention of "two in Australia"). Hurray for editors!
That summary lists 3 cities in Australia.
Porn studios have a new market, so it matters to them.
About being "censored" to -1, you're already -1 and I can see ya. Slashdot isn't the government so they could delete your post and it still wouldn't be censorship. Keep in mind slashdot is private property. They can do whatever they want to your post so quit your bitching.
The 20-30 preceding years of VR discussion aren't really relevant. The major breakthroughs in VR have been much more recent than that, and the technology is finally at a point where it can be made available to consumers relatively cheaply. We're at the beginning of a new S-curve.
Who needs virtual porn when they can get real porn?
Don't waste your vote! Vote for whoever you want, unless you live in a swing state it won't matter anyways
Page hits go from 1 to 10000...
Headline: "Page hits increases 10,000%!!"
You wouldn't believe what I saw when I zoomed in on a Sim City teenager's computer screen.

....and the hits from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar went through the roof.
13 dollars I think gets you a google cardboard kit... on which you can play some 3d content (3d not as in stereo, but as in "move your head around" 3d).
I for one, welcome our new hot grits... PROFIT!
Someone's programming the sex-chatbots to do Google searches :)=

Probably the biggest blunder is to not have porn available. This, combined with the fact that the resolution needs to at least double .. it's no wonder VR will fail this time around as well.
I think we have to wait till the year 2035 -- at least for there to be usable VR. If they had made more porn apps .. the investment would have allowed VR tech to advance to the point of being usable by 2020.
And you can see VR porn is tiny.

It's just having a high relative increase from an essentially zero base.
She was like chocolate when she drank... semi-sweet at first and then increasingly bitter.
Good, maybe someone wants to buy my domain? ;-)

I make it three in Australia. Unless they mean Melbourne (in Derbyshire or Florida or Quebec or other places) or Sydney (in Nova Scotia or British Colombia) or Brisbane (in California). This appears unlikely.
I think I can explain why Norway is topping the VR porn chart. With Norway being a high cost country, the price of a flagship smartphone becomes relatively low compared to many other things like cost of living etc. So in our country Samsung has been very successful in marketing the Galaxy S7 with the the free GearVR bundle. It's definitively one of the most popular phones at the moment. I see them everywhere. In fact when I purchased my S7, Samsung Norway was so overwhelmed by orders that they had run out of GearVR bundles, and had to ship the VR googles later when they got new ones from overseas. So at the moment there is a lot of GearVR users in Norway, looking for content. And as we all know, internet is for porn.
Porn smells like wet cardboard. Yummy.
But B.C.'s is spelled Sidney.
I come here for the love
No. Really.
Compare it to "Brexit".

Holodeck porn! Why stop with just the glasses?

Who the hell was searching for "vr porn" before consumer vr headsets were on the market? I guess everyone has their kink...
Twinstiq, game news
for the nerds. Something we were waiting for. Fuck self driving cars I want to have a robot self washing babe and if that is not available soon at least a good virtual pr0n. A nightmare of STD and pregnancy (yes in this day and age it still happens that you get screwed over an unwanted pregnancy unless you get yourself a cut) may be gone and I do not have to talk to other human when I do not want to. OC there will be people that will be disappointed - but hey the argument about dehumanizing sex as good as it would fit cannot be made because no human is getting dehumanized (sex) other than the customer themselves. Final release from naizfems and other confused individuals like my ex.
...and women are too dangerous. Harmful consequences of sex include: pregnancy, legal charges, disease, love->marriage->divorce->poverty.
Harmful consequences of electronic porn: none. It is also much cheaper in the long run.
The choice is obvious.
Porn is what will make sure VR doesn't just become another short term fad. Sex sells, as an erotica author I know. Regardless of how much free stuff is out there, porn always outperforms other markets. Porn standardized super 8 film and led to blue ray winning its battle. Porn will make sure VR stays.
You realise that the owners are probably keen to get eyeballs and comments on articles, do you? You went and commented on something that you think to be boring. Probably best not to do that.
I do not want your cheap brainburning drugs. They are useless for work. And I am a working man today.
