Agree, all the data is out there. Seems to me someone thought of using an rPi or other hobby board and then realized it wouldn't handle the temperature and promptly asked on slashdot, as for having an "engineer" on board, I suspect rather strongly he IS the "engineer". So Texans need not worry about running any toll booths any time soon.
On a side note to the original poster, the reason fanless is chosen is that fans have a really short mean time to failure (depending on conditions, fan quality etc.) relying on them for cooling will require active monitoring of said fans / temperatures because if the fan fucks out the hardware is close behind. That means higher maintenance costs etc. If that was not enough, if the ambient temperature is higher than the rated temperature of the silicon it doesn't matter how many fans you pack in, it's going to die.
If it's good enough for Mars, it's should be good enough for Texas. Erm, it might require you to actually learn a programming language instead of cutting and pasting from stack overflow though. Good Luck!
We have to play to the 1% that are such fuckwits they ruin it for the rest of us. We have to walk as slow as our slowest person to keep society fucking moving, right? I take drugs like a fucking champion, right? [Audience cheering] We should all be allowed to take fucking drugs, but we can’t, can we? Because Sarah took drugs and she stabbed her fucking kids. Oh! “Oh, thanks, Sarah. You fucked it up for everyone.” Right? Everyone should be allowed to drive their car as fast as they can do it, right? But we can’t because Jonathan got drunk and ran over a family. “Thanks, Jonathan! Now I have to drive at 30, you fucking idiot!”
Blow it out your ass, you've been building military bases all over the fucken planet for years. https://www.globalresearch.ca/...
The last couple years all the wars have been started (but lost) by America to fuel your fucken broken assed economy.
The great American collapse (like the collapse of the Soviet Union) is inevitable.
I personally think it could't happen to nicer warmongers.
So who gives a shit, it should still be an individuals choice of whether to carry to term or not, this whole abortion debate has way too much religion involved, I don't see you complaining about America killing - or terminating - fully grown people in Syria. I know lots of people who had children way too early in life, when they were clearly not in a good financial position to take on the extra burden of raising a child.
Also lots of people copulate *on purpose* after having a drink too many in the local pub, should that person now be stuck with making a one night stand mistake with the ugly retarded asshole they normally wouldn't even talk to?
The planet is fucking over populated as it is, I think abortions should be free and encouraged.
If they choose to terminate then your religious or moral sensibilities should not be a fucking factor in their choice.
It's pointless cleaning up the place where all the plastic collects if you are just going to continue adding to it.
We should ban the fucking production of plastic except for special circumstances, and also enforce stricter recycling rules, only 10% of plastic is recycled AT ALL, it should be 99% is recycled. Only after that is achieved will it be worthwhile trying to sift it out of the ocean. Fine people littering heavily and that money can be used to help clean up the ocean. Charge people more for every piece of plastic in their garbage (that they haven't even tried to recycle) and pay people who are recycling, when plastic stops entering our rivers and hence into the ocean we can look at cleaning up that mess. Trying to do it now is just a waste of money and resources.
My 75 year old mother can post on facebook, she can't build and maintain a website.
THAT is why facebook took off, it allowed the village idiots to be... idiots.
And I just realized I called my mother a village idiot, sad part is it's not far from the truth.
The day of the Triffids is coming soon. One of favorite books btw.
Could they not have picked a plant with a more innocuous name, "devil's ivy" has an ominous ring as it is, never mind "genetically modified devil's ivy".
Yeah, my ex is the same, always on FB, she is also in IT so she knows the implications and acts accordingly, but I don't want ANYONE knowing that much information about me. As soon as FB listed they become entirely profit driven (like any listed company) after that scruples fell to the wayside. One day when I am big and start my own company the day it gets listed is the day I cash out and walk away.
I haven't logged into my account in ages, but then I tend to not keep in touch with people once they out of my line of sight.
Bad habit, but that's just me.
Facebook is a handy place / way to keep in touch with people (if that's your thing) so I can understand how more gregarious people (yes even the smart ones) use it.
Just don't expect any sort of privacy whatsoever when using it and act appropriately.
since television is no longer delivered by satellite primarily
Maybe where you live (I assume the US) but where I live satellite is the primary form of receiving television, heck we can still "tune" in to broadcasts from transmission towers for some channels. They were supposed to change to digital to free up spectrum but have failed to do so due to utter incompetence.
Just because I can do "task A" doesn't mean it's always worth my while to do it.
Agreed, I am busy rebuilding a classic motorcycle (a Honda CX500TC) but to do a full service on my car I take it to a mechanic, I'm rebuilding the bike myself because I enjoy doing it. I can also mow lawn and prune trees etc. etc. but I pay someone else to do it, because I earn more money in an hour doing what I do best. Ok, maybe not the pruning, most people tend to fuck it up, and it takes a season or two for the poor tree to recover. If I mowed the lawn myself instead of coding I would actually be losing money. Besides I grew up having to mow half a hectare of lawn every other Saturday, I've had enough lawn mowing to last a fucken lifetime.
Disagree, there is no reason whatsoever to be disrespectful, even in comments. You may not give a shit, but others do, just don't fucking do it.
Which reminds me of when I started working as a programmer on an A-Series mainframe, was trying to find a bug and had the equivalent of "ECHO" in my code, and because I was getting frustrated I started using comments like "Yay, got fucken here" next minute my phone rings and on the other end is a religious type operator and he complained that he could see my comments and did not appreciate it. It got escalated rather rapidly and my manager had to step in and calm shit down. Learnt from that, I no longer put swear words into code or comments where someone else might end up working / maintaining it, which is pretty much all work related code. My team may not give a fuck either way but at some point some religious nut job is going to get employed and he will give a crap. My own private crap I swear the fuck away, because no one else is ever likely to see the code or comments.
Which reminds me of another story, was working for a sports betting company, in the initial interview they asked me if I have any issues with betting, I was "Well if you suck at math then go ahead and waste your money" a while later we hired a Jehovah's Witness guy, he worked there for about a month before his church elders found out where he was working and forced him to resign. Like I said, you got to watch out for the nut jobs.
Should be "Why US PC Builders Should Stock Up on Components Now'" the rest of us don't give a fuck. You stupid "trade" war is a prime example of someone shooting themselves in the foot. Good luck with that.
You are the only nation to drop a nuke in anger, in war. Twice. On civilians. Children. The first I can understand, the second? Why? So you could play with your new toy?
You may need to to elaborate.
It seems like America is willing to do what ever it wants.
Torture
Chemical attacks
Wrongful arrest.
Illegally invading countries.
Napalm and agent orange, FFS I mean where do Americans
draw the line on what they will not do?
While I agree with you to a large degree, there are certain guides that I always insist on getting in print. Perhaps I am old fashioned, but car and motor bike workshop manuals I always try to get a printed copy. My one bike I could only find a PDF manual (it's a rare bike) and it's a bit of a pain when the tablet dies halfway through an overhaul. Not just that, it's generally a dirty job with abrasive materials involved, not exactly the environment I want my tablet to be in, whereas with a workshop manual... it's supposed to get a bit grimy, otherwise you haven't been using it properly.
I suppose it would depend on the reason you are playing the game in the first place. If it's to prove to your peers that you can / or did get through the game then a guide would help with that. If it's to have fun and figure things out then I suppose a guide would be superfluous. The main thing here is that they were PRINTED guides, although I suppose they probably let people buy and download PDF versions, not sure, but seems obvious. There are certain business models that are dying, people need to move on, video stores, book shops (sadly) are all dying. I love reading, but 99% of my reading I do with ebooks. I rarely go into a book shop anymore, and if it is it's to browse for new reading matter, then I take a picture of it and download it. I always have my phone on me, I can read anywhere, I only lug books around when I know I am going to be out of internet range, or there might be power issues, but then there are ways around that as well.
I will laugh my ass off if the Russian's simply do the same thing and upload American malware, we already know from multiple sources that America is doing cyber war just as much as the Chinese and Russians etc. This is just a publicity stunt... although I have to admit I would like to take a look at them, disassemble them and see how they work. I took an in depth look at the Melissa virus back in the day (although that wasn't exactly hard, it was written in VBA) it did something that work wanted me to do, so I wanted to see how it did it. Horrible code, boggles the mind how it managed to spread and do so much damage with such shitty code. So I copied the one line of undocumented API code that it used, to do what I needed to do and the company anti-virus did not like it at all. So in a meeting I said "I can do what you want me to do, but you will have to switch off the anti-virus", yeah, that didn't fly. Rightly so, so we had to figure out another workaround.
So true, I would mod you up if I had any points.
A private road with a private toll booth. Sounds really plausible...
Agree, all the data is out there. For shits and giggles I googled it for you BAE Systems RAD750 3U cPCI Single Board Computer

They naysayers said that about the LHC causing a black hole and destroying the world. There is always going to be someone who thinks the worst.

Like fighting for oil.
Having that as a goal in life is very depressing...
But fyck I can relate.
