Apple Now Sells Refurbished iPhones (9to5mac.com)
In the past, Apple has only sold refurbished Macs, iPads and various niche devices on its refurb store. Now the company is officially selling refurbished iPhones, offering the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in its refurb store. 9to5Mac reports: Apple has sort of sold refurbished iPhones before, but those sales were relegated to an eBay store front and never fully acknowledged by the company. This is the first time that the company has offered iPhones on its official refurb store online. Customers will find the iPhone 6s in 16 GB storage varieties for $449.00. The larger iPhone 6s Plus is being offered in two storage varieties: 16Gb and 64GB for $529 and $589, respectively. It seems that all colors are currently available, which includes Silver, Space Gray, Gold, and Rose Gold. In the end, users can expect to save up to 15% ($110) by going the refurbished route, and remember that these devices come with a full 1-year factory warranty, which makes refurb units a great idea for budget-conscious shoppers. It's also worth noting that all of Apple's official refurbished iPhones are unlocked and come SIM-free, plus they all include a brand new battery and outer shell. It's as close to a new iPhone as you'll get without actually buying one brand new.
Refurbished everything, 18 months of financing...? Really?
Thanks, but no thanks.

Flat-out wrong. My original iPhone (2G) was a refurbished model, purchased shortly after launch. $399 for a 4GB model.

(And then the price drop happened but I was within the 15-day return window and I got back $150.)

In India, Apple only replaces iphones with a new one, they've recently started some basic repairs for broken screen though. What their stores do not tell is that the iphones are refurbished. Pretty much their staff always says new. And having done this atleast twice, I can tell you its not worth the nominal price difference of 100 bucks they are offering. There is always some or the other quality issue. Maybe they do better in US.
16GB for $449 is way too expensive for a refurbished item, especially an electronic device. You could get a new 6s with twice as much storage (32GB) and you would pay only $100 more dollars.
My daughter wanted a 6S Plus to replace her 4-year-old iPhone 5 (she wanted the headphone jack, so the 7 was out). I was waiting for T-Mobile to update their offerings - up until a few days ago, they were still selling the older configurations where the base model only had 16GB - but it turned out I could get a refurbished 6S Plus with 64GB for less than what a new 32GB model cost.
I've had very good luck buying refurbished Apple products. The only real "drawback" is, understandably, brand new releases aren't available as refurbs for a while.

They had to store all those iPhones suffering from screen death somewhere... might as well put them in the hands of poor, gullible users!
And before that in Denmark they were secretly giving consumers refurbished and not new phones in violation with the law when they could not repair peoples phones within the warranty period and actually suing the consumers whindared challenge Apple not adhering to the laws of the land.
