Bad News If You Make $150,000 to $300,000: Higher Taxes for Many (wsj.com)

From a WSJ report: If President Donald Trump sticks to what he has said, Americans earning between $149,400 and $307,900 are most likely to see an increase in their taxes as a result of tax reform (Editor's note: the link could be paywalled). Those figures come from a recent study by the Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan group in Washington, and are based on Mr. Trump's statements and proposals. The study concludes that nearly one-third of about 19 million households in that income range could see tax increases averaging from $3,000 to $4,000 a year. By contrast, less than 10% of households earning the least or the most -- below $25,000 or above $733,000 -- would owe more after a tax overhaul. Over all, the study found that about 20% of taxpayers would owe more after tax reform than before it. The issue of tax reform's winners and losers has resurfaced after top congressional Republicans and the Trump administration released a set of broad principles for tax policy on Thursday containing few details.

Education is not free! Not in Sweden, not in the US, not anywhere. Someone always pays somewhere along the line.

Also, where did you get the idea that Americans pay for 10 years of school? There's a reason it's called K-12 here, and primary school education in the US is paid by property taxes. Also, only private schools are typically in the range that you allege for both K-12 and college.

You don't have to like this country, but don't use skewed statistics you hear from all the anti-US media to try and prove your point. The real WTF in Scandinavia is why they charge 150% sales tax on cars. According to my taxi driver when I visited there, it was "because that's the way it's always been done."

If you don't understand that a tax rate of 50.01% or greater is SLAVERY then you are a fucking asshole.

I don't give a fuck what you do, if some third party can come along and say "while you work, WE will take the MAJORITY of whatever you earn, and do with it whatever we want", then you are A SLAVE.

(one of the places) Freedom ends is at 50.00% combined income tax (fed, state, county, city) Yes, there are places where you actually have to pay 4 income taxes (here in CA the state collects on behalf of the county and city)

If you think someone should be penalized more because they have taken the time to learn a skill, enter a field with higher pay, go to college longer, or take a larger risk/reward by starting a successful business, then you are a FUCKING COMMUNIST ASSHOLE.

You also do not believe in fairness, you think someone else should foot your bills, and you are petty. There should be exactly one tax bracket. I don't care if it's (combined) 10% or 40%. It should be applied equally. All men (and women) are supposed to be equal under the law.

10% from someone making $20K a year is not a huge tax hit. 10% from someone making $200K is a much larger AMOUNT of money.

The middle class always foots the bill for everything, yet this country is hell bent on killing the middle class.

The problem is NOT the rich. If we taxed the ultra-rich at 100%, we could run the Federal Government for about 1 year (maybe with a deficit, maybe not). But it would occur ONCE (their wealth would be gone). And then we would have to go back to destroying the middle class.

The vast majority of rich people did not become rich by somehow fucking other people over. They started successful businesses or invested correctly, or hit the lottery. None of these things somehow made anyone else poorer. Please note I said "vast majority". Don't start cherry picking single examples of some rich asshole crook. Crimes are crimes and should be treated as such.

Why should going bankrupt ever be a problem?

Trump has done it four times. Businesses do it all the time. They don't have some pathological fear of it. it is simply a too. Certainly our laws regarding personal bankruptcy have been corrupted (and very recently too).

It's not something that should really be a big deal. Plus most of us are starting from a better point than Europeans anyways. Better broke than dead waiting in line or getting substandard care.
